I am telling this story about my uncle, Pvt. John P. O'Rourke. On 3 Oct 1918. American and Allied Forces attacked the German stronghold on Blanc Mont Ridge in France. This would be a decisive battle and the turning point in WW 1. Pvt. O'Rourke was in the Medical Detachment, 2nd Infantry Div'n, 9th Inf. Reg't. As his Citation reads,he continuously advanced ahead of his Company with utter disregard for his own safety and administered to the wounded. He did this on several occasions until he fell mortally wounded. For this action he was awarded, posthumously, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, and the Purple Heart.
