RALPH EDWARD FLANDERS; (1880-1970)
A Senator from Vermont, born in Barnett, Caledonia County, Sept. 28, 1880, moved to Pawtucket, RI. with his parentsin 1886, attended the Public Schools of Pawtucket, Lincoln & Central Falles, RI. Engaged as a machinest apprentice at Providence, RI. in 1897. He remained in the machine tool industry until his death. From 1944 to 1946 he President of the Federal Reserve Board of Boston. Appointed on November 1, 1946 as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy in the term, caused by the resignation of Warren R. Austin. He was an inventor of important developments in the machine tool industry, author of several books and articles. He died in Springfield, Vermont, February 19, 1970, cremated in Springfield, Mass., February 23, 1970, ashes deposited in Summer Hill Cemetery.
