My Grandfather William H. Kates was born(1878) into a large family in Delaware,and raised in Felton in Kent County.The family was a farming family.He married Bessie Sipple Foster in 1902. They had 9 children.Lillian, Mary, Bessie, Charles, Avis, Elva, Franklin, James,and Paul. They also raised Francis Edwards as their own.They moved to Marcus Hook, Penna. so that Grandfather could work in the Viscose Mill. They also had a boarding house.I know that they were there in 1930 , but don't know when they moved there. He also worked for many years for Mr.Phillips who owned The Farmers Market in Booth's Corner, Pa.They lived locally until his, and her deaths in 1959.
