My great grandmother was Rosalie Gariepy (Gardipee) but when she received her scrip in about 1900, she got registered in the National Archives of Canada as having her surname spelled Gardipee. Rosalie couldn't write her own name so hence she made an X on her scrip and her signature was witness. When she married my great grandfather Robert Alexander Howse in 1904, he took her one son under his wing. This son was George Gardipee. George later on married Mable Black and together they raised a healthy family of which all took and spelled their surname as Gardipee. So all of us who are related to Gariepy's are also related to Gardipee's, they are all of the same cloth.
