My father, Robert Norman Lane was born in 1926, the yongest of seven. His father Earl Lane (B. 1890?), died when Dad was around two. With all those kids to raise during the depression, my grandmother, Mary Prudence Doughten Lane (1890-1982), had to put the younger ones in foster care in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Now, I don't know how foster care was back then, but Dad had no good memories of the 7 families he was placed with. At 14, his older brother Jimmy took care of him, raising him till he could forge on his own. He never knew his Dad, and myself and my siblings never knew our grandfather. Grandmom never remarried, and we never heard much about him, Earl Lane. I have researched the family and found plenty on Mary Prudence Doughten Lane, my grandmother, but never anything on Earl Lane. He is my missing link, he is the blank branch of my family tree, my family name . . .
