Pietro Iula - birth: March 25, 1862 - death: June 5, 1947
His surname changed to Iulo when he came to America. Evangeline (D'Urso) Iula - birth: - death: March 11, 1934 This is a story about Pietro Iula, my great-grandfather who came from Castelmezzano (a province of Potenza) in the region of Basilicata, Italy. He was in the Italian Army. He had two sisters one named Georgiana and another one whose name I do not know. He also had two brothers one named Louis another whose name is unknown. His parents were Egidio Iula and Maria Vincenza Nigro. He came to the USA in 1886 and settled in Manhattan at 260 Elizabeth Street. He was a Barber and married Evangeline D'Urso on August 22, 1889 in NYC. She also came to the USA in 1886 and also lived at 195 Elizabeth Street when she was single. In 1900, after they were married they both settled at 197 Elizabeth Street in Manhattan. They then moved with their children to 61 East Houston Street from 1901 until 1911. When The Williamsburg Bridge was built and there was a need to make new roadways to redirect the traffic flow, they had to move from 61 East Houston Street to 1353 - 66th Street in Brooklyn. Pietro Iula then opened a Candy Store on 13th Avenue and 66th Street in Brooklyn, next to the Intrepid Lounge. They had eleven children. My great-grandmother Evangeline D'Urso had a half sister named Jean and I believe two brothers who became surgeons and moved to Chicago, but I don't know their names. Her parents were Giovanni D'Urso and Concieta Trocolle. The eleven Iulo children were: George - birth: May 5, 1893 - death: unknown John - birth: May 28, 1895 - death: January 23, 1963 Jenny - birth: June 12, 1898 - death: May 8, 1984 Dominick (Dan) - birth: November 11, 1899 - death: December 11, 1963 Concetta (Mamie) - birth: November 2, 1901 - death: November 28, 1937 Louis - birth: 1904 - death: unknown Lucille (Lucy) - birth: July 27, 1905 - death: October 25, 1988 Josephine (Josie) - birth: February 28, 1908 -death: April 24, 1960 Peter - birth: February 10, 1910 - death: October 13, 1973 Robert (Bob) - birth: February 14, 1912 - death: November 4, 1986 Edward (Eddie) - birth: April 4, 1916 - death: January 2, 1991
