Our Foley's come from County Wexford, Ireland. Martin Gerald Foley, my grandfather, was born in the Roman Catholic Parish of Marshallstown, Co. Wexford on May 24, 1884. His parents were Patrick Foley and Anne Byrne Foley. His Godparents were Philip Foley and Mary Bryne.

It seems that Philip Foley and possibly a sister emigrated to America in 1888. Philip Foley turns up again in the 1910 Federal Census in Santa Rosa, Sonoma, California. His nephew, Michael Joseph Foley, born Feb 1890, had just arrived from Ireland and was boarding with Philip Foley. My grandfather Martin and Michael Foley were brothers. Michael Joseph Foley married Henrietta Jasperson.

Martin Gerald Foley married Anne (Annie) Cummins in San Francisco CA. Her brother was John J. Cummins who had come over from Oranmore, Galway, Ireland in 1907. Both Annie and Martin (a San Francisco policeman) died in 1934. They left one son, Martin Joseph Foley, my father, who was born in 1925.

Comments about this story:
Annie Cummins, her brother John J Cummins, and sisters Mary and Margaret all came to San Francisco, CA. from 1890 to 1920. Recent findings show that the name Cummins was spelled Commins in Oranmore, Galway, Ireland. The Commins family is in the 1901 Irish Census.
