They immigrated to America from Ireland in the 1800’s. James Fox and his brother, Maurice Fox, came first in 1851. James Fox was born in Tipperary, Ireland in August of 1832. When the brothers arrived, Maurice elected to stay in Brooklyn while James settled in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. James married an Indiana lass named Ellen and were founding members of the Cathedral in Ft. Wayne. James and Ellen had eleven children: Mary Agnes, Andrew, Catherine, Edward, Nellie, Josephine, James T., Elizabeth, Bernadette, Rosalia, and Robert. The Fox family lived on McClellan Street, and James Fox had a successful business as a coal dealer. James Fox died in 1912 at the age of 80 years old survived by his widow Ellen and eleven children.
Thomas J. Pauley was born in 1838 in Kilworth, Ireland. When he first arrived in America in 1879, he lived with his In-laws, James and Ellen Fox. Thomas’ oldest sons, John J. Pauley and Thomas E. Pauley, came in 1881. In 1882, Thomas’ wife Mary E. Fox Pauley came with their five youngest children, Eugene, James, Edward, Mary, and Johanna. The Pauley’s were founding members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ft. Wayne. Thomas Sr. was machinist with the Nickel Plate, but he died in 1899 at the age of 61. He left behind his widow Mary, seven children, and two grandchildren.
