Mary Leda Perry was supposedly born in Detroit, Michigan to French Canadian parents. At about the age of eight, her mother died and her father, feeling that he could not take care of her, gave her to the ArchDiocese and asked that a home be found for her. Somehow, she was given to Katherine Hanlon in Ann Arbor, Michigan and was raised by her until her marriage to Albert Keene Galloway in 1914. Because Mary was old enough to know what had happened, she felt abandoned and bitter. She refused to speak of her biological family with anyone. It is believed that she had several brothers much older than her, one of whom came back when she was about 12 to tell her their father had died and the same or another brother who came to Texas in the 30's after tracking her down there. She refused to speak with him and told him to never return. There was no further contact by the family and now, her descendants are desperately looking for anyone who may give us a clue as to where she originally came from.
