Family stories have it that Great-Grandpa I. L. Ward born in Summers County, West Virginia and was the chief of police in Mabscott (Raleigh County) West Virginia. We believe he died in about 1917 to 1920. He was married to Rettie Gregg who was born in Shulls Mill, North Carolina.
We think they had at least two sons, one of which was Carl Lee "Jack" Ward born 5/16/1907 in Minden, WV and died 2/14/1939 in Mabscott, WV. Carl Ward married Virginia Vaught and these two were my maternal grandparents. Because Carl Lee Ward went to live with relatives as a child we have no further info into our Ward family history. Does anyone know anything more about "Chief of Police" I. L. Ward of Mabscott, WV?
