- I am researching my SMITH's that start with Gulielmus Smith, born abt. 1735, in Hanover Co, VA. He moves his family to Granville Co, NC about 1762 and there he lives out his life as a large Slave and Plantation owner. Most of his sons leave the area and move to the Claiborne/Campbell Co, TN area. His son, Ransom D. Smith moves to Marion Co, TN in 1830 and this is where he remains until death. Most of his children follow him to Marion Co, TN but others either stay in Eastern Tennessee or go on to MO.
