Family history is comprised of society's celebrations as well as individual families' traditions. May 1st (May Day) has a long and changing history throughout the world. In the Celtic culture, May 1st was Beltane. Other places used different names and different ways of celebrating. But whatever it was called, April 30th / May 1st has long been a time to celebrate life and the renewed fertility of the land.
