Father's Day
June 17, 2006
Father's Day is a fairly recent addition to the list of holidays in the United States. While some say that the first Father's Day service was conducted in West Virginia in 1908, all agree that it was the efforts of Sonora Smart Dodd, the daughter of a single father of six children, who persuaded President Calvin Coolidge to spearhead the effort for a national celebration of Fathers.
President Richard Nixon, in 1972, finally established the third Sunday in June as the permanent Father's Day, honoring all good fathers who contribute as much to the family as a mother. Have you honored your father, grandfather, and great-grandfather's by submitting stories and photos to AncientFaces? If not, do so now as a tribute to those who have gone before you.
