10th Cavalry Regiment was formed during the fall of 1863
using May' sKentucky Mounted Battalion as its nucleus. It
contained men from Kentucky and Virginia. The unit served
in the Department of East Tennessee and the Department of
Western Virginia and East Tennessee, and skirmished
invarious conflicts in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. In
the spring of 1865 it disbanded. The field officers were
Colonels George R. Diamond ,Andrew J. May, and Edwin

Trimble, and Major William R. Lee.

Jonathan married (2) Mary Polly Mullins daughter of Booker Wilbur Mullins and Nancy Jane Potter on Apr 17 1858 in Pike County,Kentucky. Mary was born on Apr 7 1838 in Perry County,Kentucky. She died on Jun 10 1872 in Kanawha County,West Virginia.

They had the following children:

iv. Rhoda Elizabeth Cantrell was born in Dec 1859 in Pike County,Kentucky.

v. James Hiram Cantrell was born in Dec 1859.

vi. Levi Cantrell was born in 1860 in Pike County,Kentucky.

vii. John Wilson Cantrell was born in May 1862.

viii. Jake Cantrell was born on Jun 25 1863. He died on Apr 5 1956.

ix. George W. Cantrell was born on Apr 22 1865. He died on Mar 21 1946.
