"Pericles Parry Thanasoulis b1929"   Thanasoulis family story

An observation and a question I hope someone may respond to, i notice on the web site mentioning (deceased) Thanasoulis' clan. Referring to Pericles Parry Thanasoulis, specifically in regard to middle name of Parry between Pericles and Thanasoulis dob 1929. I find it incongruent that this would be a genuine name. Patronymic I am sure was not only traditional but crucial in identifying and legitimising an individual. Even with this fundamentally important element of nomenclature, with time there will of course come variations with giving of names - moving and marrying abroad etc. I find it difficult to believe that a woman in 1929 would offer a second name of Parry, a diminutive of a name and meaning "son of" (Welsh) to her son. Rather, I am inclined to believe that the section for Thanasoulis' on your website has been padded for effect.

Hello Peta - This is a real person who is listed on the Social Security Death Index by the United States Government. Hopefully, a family member will add more information about Pericles Parry Thanasoulis and that this will answer your question about their name. I would assume that "Parry" was a nickname that was taken when moving to the United States and is based on the sound of the diminutive for "Pericles".

I agree with Kathy, the name Parry sounds like it may be an "Americanized" version of a meditterean name.
