"Steve Hogan & Animal Shaped Pancakes" Hogan family story
My favorite was his animal shaped pancake requests because even if he screwed it up, he'd come up with some funny excuse that he meant to make that and then make up what it was. Anything from a bear getting a bee hive stuck to his butt and he's trying to run away to teaching me what the country of Italy looked like.
One special moment I'll never forget was when I was 9 or 10 and I asked him who taught him to make pancakes. It was the first time I ever saw my Dad cry, but he was smiling as he did so. He said it was his Dad and he had just as much fun with him in the mornings too. I immediately told him that I can't wait to be a Dad so I can do the same thing for my kids.
It was the only "sure thing" I ever knew about myself and it added focus to my life over the years because I knew that getting good grades and learning to be a good athlete would all be things that I would use to pass onto my children someday.
As I write this I have 3 kids of my own all under the age of 10. I'll admit that my wife does most of the cooking for breakfast, but I do the special pancakes on occasion. My son especially loves them and gobbles up 3 helpings worth just like I did at his age. The important part is I know my kids love Saturday mornings just like I did because we are all together cuddling or tickling and just enjoying the wonderful joy of loving each other. If I were to try to guess what Heaven would be like, it would involve a giant "cloud coach" with me and all 3 of my kids in pjs cuddled up together on it giggling and just enjoying each other's love.
You and your dad are with us every Saturday morning. Thank you soooo much for teaching me how to love and be good dad! I Love You FOREVER and look forward to the day of hugging you again.
