I have an old photograph of Charles BOWERS Sr. which was taken in the early 1900's at the Houser Studio in Michigan City, IN. Charles appears to be in his teens at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Charles and his family:
Charles William BOWERS was b. 19 Nov 1886 in Medaryville, IN to John Christian BOWERS (1857-1925) and Sophia Marie Friedrike ROTH or RATH (1866-1933) for were married 4 Sept 1882 in Princeton, WV. Charles was one of 8 children born to this couple including Anna Carolina; Charles William; William Carl; Etta; Edward Otto; Cecil William; Margaret “Maggie”; and Hazel Lucele BOWERS, all born between 1884 and 1902.
Charles married Emma GOERS or GORES (1889-1946) on 7 Nov 1910 in La Porte, IN and they had four children including Rev. Edward John Lewis; Helen Caroline; Lawrence William; and Charles Frederick BOWERS, all born between 1912 and 1922. Charles died 27 May 1971 in La Porte, IN and is buried in the Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery in La Porte, IN.

Miss Eva was a very funny lady too. She kept me in stitches with her funny stories. She and her husband, Martin Giles Bowers, entertained many friends in the community, providing warm company, good food, and entertainment. Martin Giles was also a farmer and provided good food and a beautiful home in the style of "Tara" for his family. I was sad when their magnificent home burned down, after Martin Giles' death.
Martin Giles Bowers was the brother of my grandmother, Jada Bowers Butler. My Bowers family were very high achievers, and I admire them!
My grandmother was a postmistress, a teacher, a store owner, as well as the mother of eight children. She loved her garden and her flowers, even tending to this garden in the latter stages of cancer, in her eighties. Sincerely, Julie Fondren Hudson (a Bowers descendant)
