I am looking for decedents of James and Hannah Clarke of Stawell, Horsham and Williamstown Vic Aust.
I am currently researching the descendants of James Clarke, b. 1845, England, d. 10-24-1919, Waunakee, Dane co., WI. He immigrated to America in 1856 at age 11. He married Harriet Taylor, b. 11-13-1843, England d. 5-11-1922, Lodi, Columbia Co., WI. She was the daughter of Joseph Taylor and Mary Barrett. They lived in Waunakee, Dane Co., Wisconsin and had (6) known children. Their names were Anne L. CLARKE, b: 1868, Vienna, Dane Co., Wisconsin. d: 9-5-1945, Madison, WI., Walter E. Clarke. b. 1871, Wisconsin, Harry Taylor Clarke. b. 1876, Wisconsin, Jessie M. Clarke. b. 1879, Wisconsin, Leon Barrett CLARKE. b. October 6, 1884, Waunakee, Dane County, Wisconsin. d. March 3, 1967, Madison, Dane, Wisconsin, and Unknown Clarke.
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 stack saltine crackers
1 egg
1/8 teaspoon garlic salt

Blend ingredients. Product should be very moist but not runny. If needed, add a few extra saltines. Mound into a large tablespoonful and drop into about a half inch of hot cooking oil or melted shortening in a large skillet. Flatten cake with spatula and fry until golden brown on both sides. Stack fried cakes on absorbant paper towels. Serve hot or cold.

These cakes keep well in the refrigerator, and may be re-warmed if desired. They are also delicious snacks eaten cold. Try melting grated cheese on top for a handy "pizza", or add sweet basil for an extra flavor treat. Make them in smaller sizes for use as hors d'ourves, or for potluck suppers.

This was a recipe of my father's mother of Richmond, Virginia; and may have originated in the American Civil War. Originally my father used dried bread pieces when making this recipe. I would love to hear from anyone who may know the origin of this recipe.
