The Royal Mail Steamship, Orama ( maiden voyage 1911 to Brisbane via Suez canal )
was converted to an armed merchant cruiser late in 1914 and
was torpedoed by a U boat in 1917.
The Benalla ( maiden voyage 1912 to Colombo )
also transported the first consignment of steel for
the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the ship
was sold to Japan to be cut up in 1931.
Elsie married Ernie in 1924.
In 1938, Elsie and her family were living on Thursday Island
when she was given the sad news that
her mother Sarah had passed away in Bendigo.

They raised 7 children including me. Three sons, 2 in the army WW11, youngest in the Navy. They were loving, hard working country people. God, country and family was their way of life. They were loving parents and I am grateful they are mine.
My dad James(Jimmy) married my mom, Maggie in Nov. 1915. They worked hard farming, raised 7 children. Movedto the city(Little Rock, AR) in 1943. James worked for the transit system driving a city bus for several years. He then bought and worked small grocery stores. He worked hard always, loved his family, read his Bible and had a great sense of humor. We loved him and miss him.
