Ellen Merrifield was charged with using insulting language
at Ascot Vale. Constable Gemmell, stated that he met the
accused on the date in question and she complained of
having lost a magpie. She became very abusive and told
Gemmell that if he did not lose so much time looking after
the ------ Salvation Army, he could find her maggie easy enough. She was fined 10s.

DOREEN.
GOLDEN WEDDING CELEBRATION.
On Monday last, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gemmell of
"Mount Caroline," Doreen, celebrated the 50th anniversary
of their wedding, which took place at South Yarra on
November 21, 1889. To celebrate the occasion a number
of friends and their only daughter Mrs. Rice Gemmell, of
Mount Magnet, Western Australia, gathered at Mount Caroline
on Sunday.
Mr. Gemmell's father was a pioneer of the Beechworth
district. As a young man, Mr. Gemmell joined the police
force in 1888 and much of his time was spent in Ascot Vale,
St. Kilda and the City watch-house.
