**Alfred M Hacker Jr stated that his father Alfred M Hacker Sr was a stagecoach driver in his early years.
****If this is the Margaret Freeman listed on the 1850 McMinn County Census she hasn't aged in 10 years. In fact she is younger by three years! it may be another "Margaret".but I belive not. Alfred has aged 5 years in 10. On the 1850 census he was 9 years old, on this census he is 14 years old.I have his full civil war pension file and someone at the national archives had enumerated a full page and a half of different birthdays he had given them over the years. Alfred Sr. disappeared from the public records with this census. He died sometime before the 1870 census was done.

Date of death may be October 24, 1927.

One of his parents was born in VA, the other in TN. I believe it may have been his father born in TN.

There is a Daniel Hacker buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Houston, TX - Lot # 22 B-3; died 8-24-1927, which should be my gg-grandfather. My g-uncle Bert is at Lot #22 B-3. Mrs. W. Hacker, died 9-11-1932 is at Lot # 22 B-3, which should be my gg-grandmother.

There is also a Norm Hacker, May 26, 1896 at Lot # 43 A-3.

Evergreen - key map 494U; in the 1897-1898 Ciry Directory it is listed as 1/4 miles South of Harrisburg Rd.; 1915- it situated at the South end of Crosby, 3 blks of Harrisburg Blvd.; 1922 listed as S. end of Latham Ave., 3 blks of Garrisburg Blvd.

Both are listed as being able to read and write.)

Died at age 84.

Her parents were born in Germany. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic.

Arthur is listed as a contracting teamster. Arthur is listed as not being able to read and write. Lousie is list as being able to do both. Both speak English.

My g-grandmother, Louise Froelich was born in Texas in 1881. My g-grandmother's parents where both born in Germany. I'm still in search of the correct spelling and their first names. I believe that the spelling is Froelich/FrÖlich. My great aunt tells me that it was pronounced "Free lick", phonetically.

They are found in the Harris County, Houston, Texas City Directory as far back as 1879-1880.

When my gg-grandmother became widowed, she married an Eisemann. ( The Eisemanns are in the same city directory.) I'm pretty sure they had more children.

My g-grandmother, Louise Froelich, married Arthur Hacker, around 1901-2. These Hackers originated in America around Ohio, Tennessee, & Missouri, USA. His father, Daniel Hacker, was born (Abt. 1845) in Missouri, his mother, Wilmonth, in Tennessee (b. Abt. 1848). I don't know her maiden name.

I still have much research to do!

JAMES H KNIGHT HAD A DEVIL OF A TIME TRYING TO GET DISABILITY PENSION. HE WAS LEFT CRIPPLED AND PARTIALLY BLIND. IT IS BELIVED THAT HE LIVED ON STARS MOUTAIN IN MCMINN COUNTY TEMMESSEE UNTILL HIS DEATH.[RENFRO.FTW]

John Knight 16, Elizabeth Hacker 30 and her son Frank Hacker 11 were living with Margaret's sister Elizabeth Thompson near Margaret Knight household.
Frank and Lorinda (Laura) Hacker children were raised by James's sister Harriet Jane Knight. They evidently did not move to Arkansas in 1901 with the Knights. Lorinda married a Renfro according to the family tradition. I suspect that she married as Harriet L. Knight in 1890 Meigs Co TN to James Monroe Renfro. Newton Frank lived in MO by 1900.

After James H. Knight married Mary Gibson in Meigs Co, TN, he moved to McMinn Co, TN where he applied for his civil war pension. His children are not mentioned in the pension application or the McMinn Co census. What a mess. He was crippled and almost blind. He lived on Starr Mountain, owed the Knight heirs and was missing payments to them. After his death, his widow Mary had problems applying for the widow's pension and with property disputes. Nothing was simple.

Listed in the family bible, N.F. had one brother John Knight who last was known to live in Marked Tree, Poinsett Co, AR and a sister Laura who married Jim Renfro and lived in TN. John Knight had a daughter, name unknown. (Probably John Jeremiah Knight Butler b. July 7, 1853 who lived in Barry Co, MO by Dec 1876.)

Newton Frank Knight and Rhuemma J. Hollick had 7 children but only three lived to adulthood, Alexander, Fleetie and Dimple.
Newton worked for the cotton belt railroad as a section forman. He belonged to the Baptist church and the Mason Lodge. He was about 6'1" and wore a bushy mustache. He had a cancerous spot on his nose that had to be burned out several times. He did not drink liquor or coffee, smoke or play cards. Instead of coffee for breakfast he would drink hot water and for his health he would drank a little peach brandy. He died from prostate cancer at his son's home in Forbfelt, Mo

Phoebe had a son Alfred R. Hardin b. Feb 6, 1901 d. 3-14-1905 by a previous marriage.
Phoebe had red hair and was a large woman she was a very good cook but wasn't much of a house keeper. She prefered boys to girls but raised her step daughter Dimple after she married Newton. Dimple always said that she was very good to her. She had one grandaughter and two grandsons when she died and I am Helen, the grandaughter and she always wanted to comb my hair behind my ears. She may have prefered boys but I always felt loved.

John may not have been Elizabeth's son but a son to Phebe Butler and as far as can be found he belonged to James H Knight. He may have grown up to be John Jeremiah Butler. He is listed as 16 and living in the household of Elizabeth Hacker on the 1870 census.

Listed in the family bible, N.F. had one brother John Knight who last was known to live in Marked Tree, Poinsett Co, AR and a sister Laura who married Jim Renfro and lived in TN.
