I have an old postcard photograph of Carl HERRING which was taken in 1918 at the F. A. Mack & Bro. Studio in Pottsville, PA. Carl appears to be about 1 year old at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Carl and his family:
Carl Albert HERRING was b. 15 Dec 1917 in Wayne Township, Schuylkill Co., PA to parents Andrew Jackson HERRING (1877-1968) and Hannah Rebecca FEHR (1880-1953) who were married 14 Feb 1903 in Schuylkill Co., PA. Carl was one of three children born to this couple including Paul Jonathan; Grace Irene; and Carl Albert HERRING, all born between 1903 and 1917. It appears that Carl’s father was married previously and had a daughter Ethel M. HERRING (1901-1938). Carl married Naomi Lorraine REED (1920-1988) on 11 Mar 1939 in Schuylkill Co., PA and they had four children, two boys and two girls.
Carl died 11 May 2000 in Pottsville, PA and is buried in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery in North Manheim Township, Schuylkill Co., PA. Carl’s obituary lists his surviving family members including two sons, Guy HERRING of Allentown, PA and Dale HERRING of Pine Grove, PA, and two daughters Shirley HIRST of Newark, DE and Faye ANDERSON of Friedensburg, PA.

It appears that Carl’s father was married previously and had a daughter Ethel M. HERRING (1901-1938). Carl married Naomi Lorraine REED (1920-1988) on 11 Mar 1939 in Schuylkill Co., PA and they had four children, two boys and two girls.
Carl died 11 May 2000 in Pottsville, PA and is buried in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery in North Manheim Township, Schuylkill Co., PA. Carl’s obituary lists his surviving family members including two sons, Guy HERRING of Allentown, PA and Dale HERRING of Pine Grove, PA, and two daughters Shirley HIRST of Newark, DE and Faye ANDERSON of Friedensburg, PA.

I have in my possession two HERRING Family photographs which I'm hoping to get back to family. The first is a photograph of Edna & Carrie HERRING taken at the W. A. Dietrich Studio in Kutztown, PA when they were just 13 months old, sometime in the 1890's.
The second photograph is one of Edgar HERRING which was taken at the J. S. Fritz Studio in Reading, PA in the 1880's or 1890's with Edgar likely less than one year old at the time. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family:
Edna Louisa HERRING and her twin sister Carrie Laura HERRING were b. 29 Mar 1898 in Greenwich Township, Berks Co., PA to parents Jesse “Jessie” Adam Lincoln HERRING (1870-1938) and Sarah Margaret SLONECKER (1870-1954). They had two siblings, brothers Edgar William HERRING (1892-1972) and John Paul HERRING (1895-1897). Edna married Harvey Alvin MERKEL (1895-1975) on 22 Dec 1916 in Berks Co., PA and they had two children, Mildred E. MERKEL BAILEY (1917-2010) and Ernest Herring MERKEL (1919-2012). Edna died Sept 1983 in Kutztown, PA and is buried in the New Bethel Zion Church Cemetery in Grimville, PA.

Jessie Herring III (aka Buddy Love) was a Firestone Mechanic for 29 years of his life. In 2006 He retired after an almost fatal accident left him permanently disabled. After the accident he was diagnosed with having epilepsy. This slowed him down over the following years. Buddy was a kind guy and would do anything for any body. Hed give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. 2013 Buddy had another almost death experience when he was brutally attacked by his ex-con brother in law leaving him to be careflighted to harris downtown for an emergency tracheotomy that left him coma tose for over a week. He survived because he always was a fighter and wasn't quite ready to leave this earth. He made a full recovery and continued to live on. 2014 October 4 at 7:45pm he was pronounced dead on arrival by the hurst police department. in the driveway of a private residence. Cause of death is still pending due to a toxicology report wait. The tarrant county medical examiner did say from the autopsy report that he had no existing medical conditions and nothing was medically wrong with him, leaving us to believe it was an overdose of somesort, no foul play was detected. Buddys wishes were to be creamated and release into the wind. He didnt believe in funerals or burials as he didnt want to be mourned over as a body in the ground. He wanted to be with everyone, everywhere. His ashes yet to be release and no set date has been established. He left behind 4 children and 9grandchildren. 2 SIsters and his father Jessie Herring JR. He will be deeply missed and he will live on in all of his family and friends. I guess we really are "pickin up what hes putting down"

Carrie married Earl William George SUNDAY (1900-1992) on 5 May 1923 in Berks Co., PA and she died 19 May 1992 in Lehigh or Berks Co., PA and is buried in the New Bethel Zion Church Cemetery in Grimville, PA.
Edgar William HERRING was b. 4 Apr 1892 in Greenwich Township, Berks Co., PA and married Sallie E. METZGER (1885-1944) in 1912 and they had two children, Paul Metzger HERRING (1917-1998) and Marion Elizabeth HERRING (1924-1927). After Sallie died Edgar married Marie KRESSLER (1904-1999) on 26 Dec 1946 in Easton, PA. Edgar died 15 Jan 1972 in Ruskin, FL and is buried in the Zion Union Cemetery in Maxatawny, PA.
My mother was a "tomboy" when she was young, preferring to roam the fields with her brother, Floyd, rather than do house chores with her sisters. She once had a pet "wild" rabbit. After she let it go the rabbit would come to the porch at night.
Once she took eggs to sell for her mother. She was supposed to buy herself a pair of shoes and take the rest of the money home. As I recall she spent most of the money on the shoes and took very little money home to her mother.
She married Winfield S. Herring and spent her "honeymoon" working in a cotton field. He became a minister shortly after their marriage. She faithfully served her LORD with him in Texas, Kansas, and Colorado.
She was an avid reader and liked to work crossword puzzles. She loved horses. We have a snapshot of her sitting on the haunches of her pet mule.
She played the piano, mostly by "ear", having taught herself to play with the "shape note" system. She could also play any instrument she wanted to try.
She and Winfield had five children: Ranelle, Bennoit Duane, Dennis Ray, Winene, and Sharron Ann.
She loved to play the harmonica and played it up until about 2 weeks before she passed away. I would visit her and she would play the harmonica while I sang. We sang old songs and hymns. Once I started on the wrong key. (This was after she was in to Alzheimers and could no longer talk.) When I started the song on the wrong note she just looked at me and laughed!! I said to her, "I must have lost the key. On second thought I never did have the key." She got a big kick out of that!
I was so blessed to have here live about 2 miles from me until she passed away. She died while I was singing "I Will Meet You in the Morning." I am soo looking forward to that meeting!!

Jessie Herring III (aka Buddy Love) was a Firestone Mechanic for 29 years of his life. In 2006 He retired after an almost fatal accident left him permanently disabled. After the accident he was diagnosed with having epilepsy. This slowed him down over the following years. Buddy was a kind guy and would do anything for any body. Hed give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. 2013 Buddy had another almost death experience when he was brutally attacked by his ex-con brother in law leaving him to be careflighted to harris downtown for an emergency tracheotomy that left him coma tose for over a week. He survived because he always was a fighter and wasn't quite ready to leave this earth. He made a full recovery and continued to live on. 2014 October 4 at 7:45pm he was pronounced dead on arrival by the hurst police department. in the driveway of a private residence. Cause of death is still pending due to a toxicology report wait. The tarrant county medical examiner did say from the autopsy report that he had no existing medical conditions and nothing was medically wrong with him, leaving us to believe it was an overdose of somesort, no foul play was detected. Buddys wishes were to be creamated and release into the wind. He didnt believe in funerals or burials as he didnt want to be mourned over as a body in the ground. He wanted to be with everyone, everywhere. His ashes yet to be release and no set date has been established. He left behind 4 children and 9grandchildren. 2 SIsters and his father Jessie Herring JR. He will be deeply missed and he will live on in all of his family and friends. I guess we really are "pickin up what hes putting down"
