Herman Eugene Isbell is the son of Hassell and Mattie Isbell. He was an only child born on December 14, 1921 in Polk, Ashland County, Ohio.
He was married to Magdalene Elizabeth Heath (1920-2004). Together they had a son named Jimmy.
Herman enlisted in the United States Army on December 1, 1943, at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia. At the time of his enlistment, he was 22 years old. The branch mentioned for Herman's enlistment was "No branch assignment," indicating that he might have been initially assigned to a non-specific unit for further evaluation or processing before being allocated to a specific branch of the military.
Herman Elbridge Isbell was born on February 22, 1922 in O'Brien, Haskell County, Texas to parents Charles Carleton Isbell (1891-1959) and Vera Yarbrough (1894-1944). He was one of four children in his family with siblings James Henry Isbell (1917-1981), Geraldine Maurice Isbell (1919-2012), and Robert Dwain Isbell (1925-2005).
On June 5, 1942 he married Mabel Laura Morrison (1922–2007) in Roswell, Chaves County, New Mexico. The couple had two daughters together including Linda Frances Isbell (1925-2008). The couple later divorced on October 2, 1973.
Herman then re married on May 25, 1978 in Irion County, Texas to Brenda S. Ashbrook.
Herman Cosmo Isbell was born on July 27, 1915 in Bedias, Texas to parents William Frederick Isbell (1888-1957) and Abigail Chloe Appleton (1885-1960). He had three siblings including Christine (1914-) and William Frederick Isbell (1917-2010) as well as two half sisters.
On December 24, 1935 he married Aline Margaret McWhorter (1912–2005) and the couple resided in Houston, Texas, USA and Bryan, Brazos, Texas, USA. Together they had 8 children inlcuding: Gail Beth Isbell Armstrong (1931-2010), Fred Wayne Isbell (1937-1987), Bobby Ned Bobbie Isbell (1940-1996), Shirley Sue Isbell Witte (1942-1985), Johnnie Ann Isbell Ward (1943-1994), and Larry Earl Isbell (1949-2022).
At the time of his registration for the draft on October 16, 1940, he was 25 years old and resided in Bryan, Brazos, Texas. His employer was listed as C Howard.Herman then enlisted in the United States Army on February 8, 1945, in Houston, Texas.
He was diagnosed with "Herniation, nucleus pulposus," which indicates a herniated disc condition in his back. The type of injury was categorized as a disease and not a traumatic injury. Due to this condition, he was discharged from service on August 14, 1945, from a General Hospital.

I am trying to research my grandmother's family name of Isbell. She was born Alma Mae Isbell in Warren County, Kentucky around 1914, although later, she changed her middle name to "Louise", she said she always hated her middle name of "Mae". She had three brothers named Felix, James Elvis and Horace. Her father's name was Luther, called "Luke" and her mother's name was Virginia Edna called "Nettie". They lived on a farm in Alvaton, I believe, but most of their family was associated with Bowling Green, Ky. My grandmother raised me. She was the rock of our family. Unfortunately, she died in 2000 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was 84 years old. She wsa raised on a farm. Her father was a carpentar and farmer. She lost her mother when she was only 57 years old from some sort of "heart problem", not sure what. Her oldest brother, Felix, was murdered, something to do with a family still. Her middle brother, "Elvis" as he was called although his first name was James died from emphysema when he was in his 70s. I did not know much about her youngest brother who died in his 70s also. I recall her stories of being raised on their farm, it was approximately 500 acres or so. Her mother was a fantastic cook (as was my grandmother). She used to tell me how after church on Sundays, most folks would come back to their farm where my great grandmother would cook for everyone, while my great grandfather would give the men folks haircuts. I believe there are still Isbells in the Bowling Green area, but have not been in touch with them in years. If anyone has any information they would like to share with me, please feel free to email me anytime, I would very much appreicate it. I am trying to find out information for my own children who idolized their great grandma, Alma. Also, would like to leave a legacy for my granddaughter. Thank you!
