En el siglo XIX, la apertura de nuevas tierras en el Nuevo Mundo y la crisis económica en que se encontraba Europa, movilizó a los sectores más empobrecidos de la sociedad Suiza a emigrar principalmente a Estados Unidos de Norteamérica, Australia, Brasil, Argentina y Chile. Se trató de éxodos organizados y con duración limitada en el tiempo. Al tratarse de inmigraciones económicas, el Estado asumió un papel regulador otorgando o denegando las solicitudes para abandonar el país.
Con relación al interés migratorio hacia Chile, se inicia en forma oficial en el año 1853, fecha en que se conocen en Berna, capital de Suiza, los primeros informes diplomáticos acerca de la experiencia alemana en el sur Chileno.
A través de informes oficiales del consulado suizo de Valparaíso, se destacaban las ventajas o desventajas que ofrecía Chile a los emigrantes europeos. Los chilenos eran presentados como gente amable y acogedora pero poco laboriosos. El clima lo describían como uno de los mejores de Sudamérica pero muy propenso a sufrir los embates de la naturaleza, como terremotos, inundaciones y continuas erupciones volcánicas. La relativa inestabilidad, la ausencia de industrialización y la escacez de profesionales y obreros calificados eran los aspectos negativos de los informes que desaconsejaban la eventual venida de profesionales suizos.
Pero la fertilidad de la tierra, como asimismo los elevados salarios y el valor del peso chileno (un peso en esa época valía 5 Francos Suizos) eran presentados como los mejores alicientes para emigrar a Chile. Los informes consulares de 1854 y 1856 confirman esta situación, destacando en particular los esfuerzos del gobierno chileno por colonizar el sur de Chile, específicamente “La Araucanía”.
Solo 28 años después de iniciada la colonización alemana, el Consejo Federal autorizó en 1881 a las Agencias especializadas a operar en Suiza para reclutar emigrantes.
El Consejo Federal después de años de examinar las ventajas y desventajas que traería autorizar la salida de emigrantes, plantea como premisa la condición de que las autoridades chilenas se empeñen en pacificar la Araucanía (territorio Mapuche), cuya posesión efectiva para los chilenos, estaba en esos años aún no del todo consumada.
El primer contingente partió en Noviembre de 1883, sería la experiencia piloto y de su éxito dependerían las autorizaciones sucesivas.
El primer grupo fue compuesto por 1.311 suizos que desembarcaron en puerto chileno, un 19 de Diciembre de 1883.
Entre 1883 y 1886 se embarcaron hacia territorio de la Araucanía 2.602 personas, cifra que representaba el 7% de la emigración Suiza de ultramar. Las operaciones continuaron desarrollándose hasta 1890, año en que se registran 2.708 suizos repartidos en las 31 colonias fundadas en pleno corazón de la Araucanía.

AGENCIAS DE COLONIZACIÓN

Bajo la presidencia de Don Anibal Pinto, se inició la expropiación de las tierras mapuches mediante remates fiscales (1873 a 1875), pero sin que esta apropiación de la tierra se hiciera efectiva ante la respuesta militar de los indígenas.
El gobierno chileno decide la creación de la emigración para la Araucanía. En 1880 es nombrado Don Francisco De B. Echeverría, Agente General de Colonización en Europa, concede en París.
Posteriormente le sucederá en ese cargo el Agente General Benjamín Dávila Larraín, quién encomendará los trabajos de reclutamiento de colonos a la casa Rommel de Basilea en Suiza.
Por otra parte, la preparación de los convoyes significó el funcionamiento de una verdadera red comercial. Comenzando por las empresas navieras, especialmente la “Compañía Inglesa del Pacífico”, que aseguraba desde el puerto francés de Burdeos, una linea regular hasta Valparaíso con sus vapores el Cotopaxi, Potosí, Sorata, El Valparaíso, Aconcagua y Britania, entre otros, principales naves en que se embarcaron colonos suizos. A fin de asegurarse los pasajeros, la compañía firmó contrato con las Agencias de inmigración ofreciendo reducciones a mitad de precio en tercera clase y sin límites de volumen ni peso para los equipajes.



EL MATRIMONIO ISLER – KLECK :
De acuerdo a las investigaciones realizadas los antecedentes de Don HEINRICH ISLER, son muy escasos a diferencia de su esposa.

HEINRICH ISLER se estima nació en el año 1850 aproximadamente y por deducción debe haber vivido en las comunas de HUNTEN y VTAREWIL del Cantón de ZÜRICH. Falleció trágicamente en el río Quillén viajando de Galvarino a su Concesión el 01 de Julio de 1889.

KATHARINA KLECK BOSSLI era oriunda del pueblo de THAYNGEN del Cantón de SCHAFFHAUSEN, nacida un 30 de Septiembre de 1859 y falleció trágicamente en Río Negro un 01 de Noviembre de 1939.

El matrimonio de KATHARINA y HEINRICH se realizó en Of. SCHWEITZ – SWITZERLAND en 1875.

De este matrimonio nacieron los siguientes hijos :

Esta familia suiza se embarcó en el puerto francés de Burdeos en el barco “Araucanía” el 26 de Septiembre de 1885.

La familia Isler llega a Talcahuano ( la fecha no ha sido encontrada) se estima que debe haber sido durante la primera quincena de Enero. Una vez desembarcados en Talcahuano, fueron trasladados a Concepción donde deben abordar el ferrocarril para trasladarse hasta Angol. Una vez llegados a la ciudad de Angol, descansan para luego trasladarse en carreta a Traiguén, ciudad donde son acomodados en la unidad militar hasta la entrega de su respectiva concesión.
