Great Grandma Kiester came to the states from the Berlin area on the Herder Ship in Sept. of 1881. Her daughter Hedwig died on the ship but her son Charles survived the trip. Great Grandma & Grandpa Carl Kiester had a daughter born in Chicago, Illinois where they settled. She was my grandmother. Great Grandpa Charles Kiester was killed by the police during the Haymarket Riots in Chicago.
