Name Origin

According to Peter Korchowsky, as told to his daughter-in-law Mary from NYC in ~1963-64, the Korchowsky name is derived from the Ukrainian word for Bush "кущ", Pronounced "K oo sh" (

[external link]
), as in Koosh_owsky.  The story goes that Korchowsky ancestors were gardeners of bushes for wealthy landowners or local royals (or the tsars).  Peter said that his descendants could Americanize the surname to "Gardener" / "Gardner" or "Bushman" (or perhaps "Bush"?).
