My name is Terry Lane. I am the grandson of the late Charles Richard Lane, of Culpeper, Virginia. I started this journey of searching for my ancestors, first hearing some old stories from my grandmother, Mary Lane. I was intrigued to find out that we were related to people I went to school with, people I worked with, and people I saw around town. My grandfather always made it a purpose to tell us who we were related to, so I guess that's what made me look deeper. In turn, I started visiting the library, going to the courthouse, searching the web, running into something new every time. I was even introduced to Zanon Miner, a local historian, who assisted/assists me for no charge. How wonderful is that! I also was helped by my cousin Hortense, who knew a lot and actually gave me a head start. I am only 28, but I've been trying to find some of this stuff for a couple of years now. Forgot to mention... My great uncle Johnson Lane is also helping me to recall some of his past. I have found a Lane family coat of arms. A marriage certificate of an Elizabeth Lane, circa 1800's, and a photograph of an unknown person( maybe I'll post a little later). I am related to the White, Williams, Young, Washington, and Shanks families. This isn't much of a story, but I hope it encourages somebody who is reading this to come forth and share what they may know about the Layne, Lane family. Mostly in Culpeper, Virginia. My great great great grandfather was Phineas Lane.He served in the Civil War,1861-1864. He died during the Battle of Bulls Gap.His wife was Jane Scott.They married in 1851,in Jefferson County,Tennessee.Phineas' parents were William and Mary ??.Anyone with information on either of them,please let me know..THANK YOU
