The family name Leuridan appears for the first time in the old country of Flanders in the 1294. The name also appears in one of the oldest Flemish coin dated about the year 1200. A Sabre (black) lion appearing on a gold field.  The cradle of the family is situated in the part of Flanders; at the time it was named "Flanders Wallonne", of which the town of Lille was the capital.  This is why the lion on the crest bears the emblem of the old city weapon of Lille on his shoulders.  A gothic silver Lilly.  The family tree originally, until the 19th century spreads out mainly in the so call West Quarters.  This is the region on both sides of the actually French-Belgian boundaries, in the region of the spring of the Leie in the A-and-Ijzerbed, which is an offshoot to the Scheldebed, in the countries.
