I met Mario Maccaferri at his warehouse on Webster Avenue in the Bronx,New York.I got to know him very well...he showed me many guitar that he had built in the 1980s that were made from the left over wood that he did not use back in the 30s,40s and 50s whn he was at his peak in building guitars.His most recognized guitar is his d shaped sound hole model acoustic guitar which also features a tailpiece , He called this model the Orchestra.The great Belgian born gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt was to go on to use these very models and make them known to the world.Mario Maccaferri told me that he never met Django Reinhardt.
