School, children named, 1 AA or biracial girl
This is a school photo I bought from Ebay in the US. What lovely faces! All of the children's names are on the back in clear adult hand, and I've listed them below (click on arrow), front row first, l-r, then 2nd row, etc. Also 9 names are written sideways in a child's hand and spelling, and all those names are repeated in the larger list except "Irene Branden". 21 of the children have pencil or pen Xs on them; not all Xs are visible in the scan. One detail I think is striking is the one non-Caucasian or mixed-race student (Mary Rhinehart). I'm Canadian and not an expert on American racial history so I don't know if this is that unusual for this era of history, or perhaps a clue to the country or area.
These children are not relatives of mine and I am not researching any of these names. Another member commented below to say that s/he may have found some of the children in the 1910 census. The Ebay seller had no further information on where it was from. I would be thrilled to hear if you have information to share with me or if you have or might have found a family member here, but I don't know what school this is or where the photo was taken, or even exactly when (though I guess from 1900-1920, because of the big bows and very few short bobs, etc), so I can't give any more information on that. Check the comments below the names to see other members' thoughts.

My grandfather Everett Mays Sr came to Pine Creek (logan co ), WV to work in the coal mines.He brought his chidren and wife Elizabeth Lewis Mays from Rowan Co,Ky. His parents was the late Henry and Martha Ann Fraley Mays of Rowan co,Ky. Henry's parents were Green and Susan Gilliam Mays. Martha's parents were Thomas and Fannie Cox Fraley. Henry and Martha are buried in the Fraley cementary in Kentucky. Green Mays was buried in bigston,Ky on the family farm.I can trace are family back to England 1584 with a Rev.William Mease that died October 1636 in london,England.I think it's so interesting how the spelling of are last name has changed down the generations. I have found five ways they spell it.In England 1584 William spelled it Mease than his son came to Virginia and spelled it Maise and then down the line it's spelled Mayes,Mayse, and then my family spells it Mays. It's seems to me my family traveled from England,Virginia,North Carolina,Kentucky, and then my grandfather came to the coaling mining state of West Virginia. I did find out my great-great-great-great-great grandfather David Mays was killed in South Carolina in 1780 at Kings mont.in the rev.war battle. I thought that was interesting but I'm not sure if that's true or not some say it is some say not .But when I started doing my family tree I had only my grandparents names and my grandfather's parents names. My 2nd great-grandfather was William "Billie" D. MAYS (B. 1794 • VA | D. 1884 • Patrick Co, VA).

His middle name might have been Daly or Daley (?).
My 3rd great-grandfather was William Thomas MAYS (B. 1775 • Pittsylvania Co, VA | D. 1814 • VA).

My 4th great-grandfather was Revolutionary War patriot PVT William MAYS Jr. (B. 1726 • VA | D. 1794 • Halifax Co, VA).
My 5th great-grandfather was Lt. William MAYS Sr. (B. 1681 • Amelia, Nottoway, VA | D. 1751 • Amelia, Lunenburg, VA).
My 6th great-grandfather was William MAYES according to [external link]. That is all I know at this point.
I remember my grandmother's sisters because my mother would take my sister and me with her when she would visit them. I wish we had visited more often because I really enjoyed them.
