The Queen was the first ship to bring convicts to Australia from Ireland. Hugh married Charlotte Hall (Simpson) arrived 2nd FLEET, Lady Juliana 04/06/1790. Charlotte born Simpson/Hall was born in London UK 1767. After arriving in Sydney NSW, Charlotte was sent to Norfolk Island on Surprise on 01/08/1790. She had a relationship with William Thomas Dodge and they had 3 children, Ralph, William and Sarah. Harold was born in 1920, the son of John J McGinnis and Jennie Fenner McGinnis. He served as a Pfc. in the "5307th Composite Unit (Provisional)" also known as Merrill's marauders. Harold is listed on this unit's website as serving in Burma.
John James McGinnis
John was born in 1876, the son of John Patrick McGinnis and Johanna Mountain McGinnis, who were both from Ireland. He was a bugler during the Spanish American War in Company H, 5th Ohio Vol. Infantry and additional units. He noted in the family bible that he first received his pension on Dec 3, 1928.
John McGinnis met his future bride, Jennie Fenner, in a diner in Massachusetts. He married her on Aug 28, 1916. The marriage was "blessed" by Father Engstrom of St. Joseph's in North Brookfield, MA. on June 20, 1920. (Blessed means the marriage was recognized by the Catholic Church.) After living in Oxford, MA, and the Brookfields, they moved to CT and then settled down in Youngstown, OH. Their children were: Hazel, Elizabeth, Sara, James Edward, Charles Francis, Harold E and John L McGinnis.

OBIT: Mrs. Johanna McGinnis, the widow of John McGinnis and a most estimable Christian woman, died in the family home, 612 Thomas Street. An illness from blood poisoning, extending over a period of 11 days, prefaced the end. Prior to that time Mrs. McGinnis was an unusually robust, strong woman.
From her infancy Mrs. McGinnis has lived in Youngstown and both as a girl and a woman had the sincerest regard and respect of everyone who knew her. She was a member of St. Columba's church since her babyhood and was loyal to its every precept. As a neighbor she was generous and thoughtful, and as a wife and mother, everything that could be wished for --faithful and indulgent. The death of her husband occurred three months ago --a fact which adds to the grief of the nearly distracted children. They are Mrs. Thomas Clark, Mrs. John Reilly, Mrs. Martin Lyden, Miss Hannah, John J and William E McGinnis.

In the History of Clinton County, Indiana 1882 it states Wilford W. Moore, a son of John and Dulcina (McGinnis) Moore, the former a native of Kentucky, born in 1815, and the latter a native of Switzerland County, Indiana, born in 1821. Her parents, Samuel and Sarah (Earlewine) McGinnis, were natives of Kentucky, but moved to Indiana, where they spent the latter of their lives. She is now living with her son John P. Moore.

William McGinnis enlisted in the Civil War at Roanoke, Indiana (Wabash, Indiana??) August 6, 1862, as a 1st Leutenant of Co. H, 75th Reg, Indiana Infantry. He was 45 years old, 5 feet tall, dark complexion, hazel eyes and black hair. He was born Bourbon County, KY (July 7, 1817) and was a mechanic. He was mustered in as Captain January 15, 1863 at Murfreesboro, TN and served under Colonel J.J. Robinson. There were no previouis or subsequent marriages for either Wm. McGinnis or his wife Hester Ann Miller. They were married at Rush Co., Indiana on September 7, 1837 by Joseph Carter, Methodist Minister. Their children: Sarah Elizabeth b: September 16, 1850; William Henry b. March 19, 1855 at Wayne Co.; Lucy Ellen b. April 17, 1857 at Allen Co; Martha Jane b. April 13, 1860 at Allen Co. On November 15, 1864 Hester McGinnis applied for widow's pension, age 47, at Allen Co., Lafayette Twp, Indiana. On August 13, 1873, she applied for an increased pension and was living at age 56. She received a $20 per month pension. Wm. McGinnis died August 31, 1864 at Savannah, GA while a prisoner of war (Libby Prison-blacksmith). He had been sick in August 1863 at the Officers Hospital, Nashville, TN and then was wounded on September 20, 1863 at the Battle of Chicamauga (N.W. of Georgia) and was taken as prisoner of war until his death August 31, 1864 (almost one year later). He died of chronic diarrhea.
Witnesses to names and dates of the births of children were George H. Knowlton & Kezian (Kezekiah) Earlywin. When widow applied for pension increase on 12-11-1873 she was residing in Allen County (Fort Wayne?), but her post office address was Huntington Co., Roanoke, Indiana.
