Old Woods School, Virginia
This photo of the Old Woods School was taken around 1909/1910 in Pipers Gap, Carroll County, VA (near Galax, VA). It was a one-room school house, and this picture was taken at the rear of the building. My grandmother (Nora Carpenter) and a couple of her siblings are in this photo. I have a list of names for everyone in this photo (including Hanks, Bedsaul, Faddis, Stoneman, Carpenter, Wilson, Alderman, Moxley, Higgins, Moore, McCall, and Fayne). Martha was spending time at the home of the Skakel family across the street from her home in Belle Haven when she tragically lost her life at the age of 15 in 1975. Michael Skakel, also 15 was convicted in 2002 (17 years later) of murdering Moxley and was sentenced to 20 years to life. Michael has been in and out prison and the court system - he is the nephew of Ethel Skakel Kennedy, widow of Senator Robert F. Kennedy.

John David Moxley was born to John Campbell Moxley (1900-1964) and Hulda Sophie (Nieman) Moxley (1899-1964) and had a sister Mary Josephine (Moxley) Rahatz (1926-2015). He was a managing director of the Manhattan law firm Lord Day & Lord, Barret Smith.
John had a daughter Martha and a son John Winston Moxley. Martha Moxley was murdered in Greenwich Connecticut in 1975 at 15 years old. The murder was the subject of two books: "Murder in Greenwich" by Mark Fuhrman, and "A Season in Purgatory" by Dominic Dunne.

So after he left I went into class and started balling because I wanted my dad to come back and give me a kiss, so my teacher let me call him to ask him to come back, and sure enough he was waiting in the parking lot for my call and came back up to my class to give me a hug and a kiss. I miss him so much! I wish heaven had visiting hours! I love you daddy!!
