I have in my possession an old photograph of Ben WELLS of Council Bluffs, IA which was taken at the William Cundill Studio in Maquoketa, IA most likely in the 1880’s sometime. Ben appears to be in his 20’s at the time the photograph was taken. The photograph looks to have been a gift to Juliet SEAWARD whose name also appears on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Ben and his family:
Benjamin “Ben” M. WELLS was born Sept 1866 in Iowa or Missouri to parents George WELLS (b. 1835) and Elizabeth WELLS (b. 1844). Ben married Eveline “Eva” Maie NASON (1871-1945) on 2 Jul 1896 in Council Bluffs, IA and they had two children including Lena F. WELLS and Florence WELLS (b. 1904). Ben died 14 Dec 1908 in Nevada, MO. His funeral was held at the St. Francis Zavier’s Church in Council Bluffs, IA and he was buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in that city. Mr. WELLS had been a Real Estate Dealer in Council Bluffs for some years along with the late Dr. C. B. JUDD.

Looking for information on Wells family from Texan and Missouri. My dad Sam was born in Houston. His dad Sam was born in Hagensport, TX. His dad (S.M. in 1900 Census) was from Missouri and I don't have any data on him other than the 1900 U S Census.

About my father: My Daddy was a grate men are my son was a grate man type of thing because how we feel and how we are God Has Made Plain for us and he has a healing My Dad passed away in 07 and i though good of him but not bad of him he was a great a men and i love him and i love him and i won't before bit i cannot forget God has made me and that was a blessing!!!!!!!!!!1

My grandfather, Oscar Jesse Lee Wells, did not like having such a long name, so he shortened to O.L. Wells. When they moved to Oklahoma, he spent all day handpainting his name on the mailbox. He was very meticulous and everything had to be done just right.
After he was finished, he stood back and admired his handiwork. There on the silver mailbox were bright white letters: O L WELLS
The next day when he went to get his mail, the school children had made a slight adjustment to his name. His mailbox now read: OIL WELLS.
