Melih Nicholas
Melih was the son of Harold Nicholas, the younger brother in the famous tap-dancing duo The Nicholas Brothers. Melih was born in Paris France to Harold's second wife Elyanne Patronne. He had sister Harolyn Suzanne Nicholas (1943 - 2003). Nevada marriage records shows a Melih Nicholas married Janice F Stout on June 30th 1989. There is an article in the Los Angeles Times on December 4, 1984 that mentions Melih. It states that "Melih Nicholas was arrested last week by sheriff's deputies in West Hollywood on a complaint filed in Denver. The Secret Service said Nicholas allegedly used a card to obtain $6,000 in cash from two banks in Lakewood, Colorado on May 17th. Melih died at his home in Los Angeles, California according to LA County Case Number 2003-08347. Investigator Wilson asked the medical examiner, Dr. Carrillo, to investigate his cause of death. Surprisingly, there is still very little known about his death. See Melih Nicholas: Obituary.
Harold Nicholas
Harold Lloyd Nicholas was born to drummer and orchestra leader Ulysses Domonick (1892 - 1935) and pianist Viola Harden (born 1895) in Mobile, Alabama. Harold was the younger brother of the tap-dancing Nicholas Brothers, in which he performed with his brother Fayard Nicholas. They danced in vaudeville, on Broadway, in nightclubs, and films. They are best known for their dancing in many movie musicals - they appeared in more than 50 movies. The Nicholas Brothers finally appeared with a Caucasian star, Gene Kelly, in their last film in 1948, "The Pirate". In previous films they were shown by themselves in their dance numbers to that the segment could be cut in the racially divided South. Harold was quoted as saying "If you were black, you experienced (prejudice). It wasn't a real horrible thing for us; we went through it. We noticed it mostly in the South and in Las Vegas, where we couldn't stay in the hotels where we entertained. But that began to change." Harold Nicholas married Dorothy Dandridge (1922 - 1965) in September 1942. They divorced in 1951 after having a daughter. He then married Elyanne Patronne, with whom he had a son, and then Rigmor A. Newman, to whom he was married when he died. He had two children, Harolyn Suzanne Nicholas (1943 - 2003), from his first marriage, and Melih Nicholas (1958 - 2003), from his second marriage. Fayard Nicholas
Fayard Antonio Nicholas was born to Ulysses Dominick Nicholas (1892 - 1935) and Viola Harden (born 1895). He had siblings Dorothy Bernice, Eveline, and brother/dancing partner Harold Nicholas. A veteran of World War II, Fayard served as a technician fifth grade in the United States Army from 1943 - 1944. A "tec 5" was created for soldiers who served from 1942 to 1948. It was created to recognize enlisted men who had special technical skill but weren't combat leaders. Fayard Nicholas married three times: First, to Geraldine Pate in 1942. They divorced in 1955. Next, to Barbara Lee January (1926 - 1998) in 1967. They remained married until her death. Last, to Katherine Jo Hopkins (1950 - 2012) in 2000. They remained married until Fayard died. He didn't have any children from his three marriages. Known for their airborne splits and acrobatics, the handsome, dapper dancing duo of brothers Fayard and Harold Nicholas is considered by many to be the greatest dance team ever to work in American movies. Child prodigies, the brothers made their film debut in 1932 ("Pie, Pie Blackbird" with Eubie Blake) and the same year began dancing at the Cotton Club, the famed New York City cabaret that showcased black performers. Producer Sam Goldwyn saw them there and hired them for their first Hollywood musical, "Kid Millions" (1934). Because of racial prejudice, they appeared as guest artists, isolated from the plot, in many of their films — a strategy that allowed their scenes to be easily deleted in the American South. Among those films are "Sun Valley Serenade" (1941), "Orchestra Wives" (1942), and "The Pirate" (1948), which was highlighted by their acrobatic routine with Gene Kelly in the "Be a Clown" number. The Nicholas Brothers appeared on Broadway in "The Ziegfeld Follies of 1936" and in 1937 they worked with ballet choreographer George Balanchine in the Rodgers and Hart Broadway musical-comedy "Babes in Arms." After spending a year in the Army stateside during World War II, Fayard reteamed with Harold. In 1946, Fayard had a featured role in "St. Louis Woman," in which Harold had the lead. They then embarked on a series of international tours. In 1948, they gave a royal command performance for the king of England at the London Palladium. Durin their career, they danced for nine U.S. presidents.

Hi. I am writing a simple account regarding the very simple origins of what I know to be my father's family.

My father is Richard Parks, Brother of Russell, and son of Georgia and Raymond of Kentucky, Michigan, and eventually Southeastern Indiana. Both parents are deceased, and I believe that there are ties to other family names in the midwest (especially Kentucky) of Cornett.

There is really so much, and I believe that is as helpful a starting point as any for future entries.
