Danette Newlin Hi, I just wanted to let you all know about my family. My name is Danette, I am the youngest of 4 kids, and the only girl. My grandparents names are Marvin and Irene O'Dell. They had 7 kids. Catherine, Wanda, Roberta, Donna, Sharon, Mike, and Marla. Mike is my dad. He is the only boy. He married my mom Linda Banfield, in 1973. Their kids are Michael, Shane, Travis, & me. We really don't know much about the O'Dell name. I would like to know more about it. Thank you.

Shane Neal My direct ancestors came west in the late 1800's. They traveled through Ft. Smith AR heading west to California. There were nine children, and both parents. By the time they O'Dells reached present day DeKalb TX they had lost two children to illnesses. While camping for the night, one son, David O'Dell, was chopping wood with an axe. The axe glanced off the wood and hit David's leg. Soon gangreen (spelling?) set in and the boy died. The mother refused to take another step westward and insisted their journey's were at an end. They settled near present day DeKalb. The O'Dells donated the land and help to build the first Baptist church/School house in DeKalb. They are considered one of the founding families of that community. John and Josephine O'Dell were his parents.
