History

The recent history of the name Odley (pronounced ODD-LEIGH) derives from romany heritage and therefore recent records are difficult to verify.  

In earlier times, there is  evidence of a Jacob Odley acting as a shaporone/body gaurd to a female refugee and her baby as she fled Judia in 41AD. It has been speculated by some that this refugee was Mary Magdelen who was fleeing the area with her daughter Sara. The validity of these claims have still to be accepted by mainsteam academics.

Interestingly, the earliest undisputed historical record of the name Odley that I have uncovered is in a register of low ranking officials that were present at the meeting of The Council of Narcia in 325AD.  K M Odley was a scribe and charged with the task of recording the councils votes. 

Thereafter confirmed records of the Odley family name are scant, at least untill the early 1700's by which time and subsequently Odley's appear regularly in local birth, death & marriage records of numerous countries around the world with particular concentration in the western hemispere.
Today the name Odley is most prominant in the worlds of website design and direct marketing.
