Quirin Country of Origin, Nationality, & Ethnicity

The surname Quirin comes from the early Roman Empire. A community in the mountains in the North of Rome had an early leader named Quirinus. As the Roman Empire was forming, there were several people named Quirinus. Go to: [external link] and browse "Saints - Q". They list at least eleven (11) Quirinus individuals that joined the Christians and were martyred by the Romans. One of these was Saint Quirin. When the Romans were sending their Legions into Gaul,A man named Quirinus was the Military "Tribune" of Rome. Under the Roman Emperor, Hadrian, all Romans were required to honor the Roman gods, and, those who refused were executed. Apparently, Tribune Quirinus was an early Christian and refused. He was put to death in 132 AD. In the North-East of what is now Alsace / Lorraine is a small Village named "St. Quirin". This is, apparently, where he was martyred. You can google the village.
