Jack Shane
I’ve “rescued” an old photograph of Jack SHANE which was taken at the Ehmann Studio in San Francisco, CA in 1896. Jack appears to be in his 20’s at the time the photograph was taken. In addition to his name and the date, someone has also written “Best Man at wedding of Mary BOCKMANN and Daniel Preston DALMAS” on the back of the photograph. I’m hoping to locate someone from Jack’s family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of his family. James Shane was born Aug. 10, 1830 in Canada?? He married Lavinia Jane "Janie" Shane on Nov. 10, 1853 in La Fayette Co., WI and they had 5 daughters and 1 son and settled in the Soldiers Grove area of Crawford, Co, WI. Jane was born on September 6, 1835 in La Fayette Co., WI. She was the daughter of James & Hannah (Elder) Shane and was known her whole life as "Janie." James Shane passed away on Nov. 27, 1883. He was buried at St. Phillips Catholic Church Cemetery in Soldiers Grove, WI. When Janie died on March 13, 1921, the family was told she could not be buried in the church cemetery because she was not catholic, so she is buried at North Clayton Cemetery in Soldiers Grove near her brother, John A. George.

This is my grandmother on my mother's side. she was born in Kearney, NE in 1889. when she was 10 days old her mother died, so her father gave her up for adoption. Nelson and Pertie Chilberg adopted her. Her biological parents were George and Laura Hartman, Sara's name was also Laura. Her new parents changed her name to Sadie, but for some reason my grandmother never used that name. I believe that she had a brother who was older than her by the name of George. she and her new parents moved to CA about 1912, where she met and married my grandfather, Elbert Shane.
