Enrique Soler-Tapia Apr 5, 1936 - Jun 4, 2003
Enrique Soler-Tapia was my uncle. The last time I remember seeing him was as a child in the late 1970's. He lived in our household in New York City during that time. He was bed ridden due to a sickness he got in Korea which affected his neuromuscular functions. In my home lived his sister Lillian Castro, my mother, Luis Castro, aka Luis Diaz my father, Mercedes Tapia, his mother, Genara Tapia, his grandmother whom he hated and fought with often, Luis Castro Jr., my older brother, and Alan Castro, my younger brother. We lived at 567 West 170th Street, New York. This was right off Broadway near Harlem. He had two other brothers who were Carlos Soler and Jose Luis Soler. Carlos died of HIV complications in Miami, FL in the early 90's and Jose Luis died before then from liver failure due to alcoholism in Puerto Rico. Lillian Castro died in Miami in 2011 from injuries sustained when hit by a car. Enrique's mother, Mercedes Tapia, died of advanced cancer in Miami shortly after Carlos Soler died. Carlos knew of the cancer before passing away. However, Lillian did not know of Enrique's whereabouts since they lost contact after moving to Miami in the early 1980's. Genara Tapia died in Miami very old with amputated legs in a nursing home I believe in the early 1990's. I was thinking about Enrique on April 16, 2014 and researched the internet to find out if he was still alive. I found this journal.
