Three men related to Tomlin family of Boyd Co KY. Carl Osborne (Married Dolly Pearl Tomlin), Oliver Tomlin & Unknown Man in middle.
Family story has it that this photo was taken sometime in the 1940's at the old Tomlin homeplace in the Ashland KY area. There are two men in the photo that we know, but the older gentlemen in the middle is still unknown to us.
The man on the left is Carl Osborne and the man on the right is Oliver Tomlin, brother to George Tomlin, b. 1870 Boyd Co KY. Would love to find info on Oliver, Carl & the unknown gentlemen in the middle.

My dad was born Aaron Francis Tomlin to Aaron Ambrose Tomlin and Anne Evelyn Jacobs. He was born in Stites Idaho 1921. All thru school he went by the name of Francis. When he graduated and went into the Navy he took the name of Thomas Francis Tomlin. His grandparents were John and Mary E. Shurigar. hoping to meet or find someone who knows more about this family. kathy

James Ervin Tomlin, my great-great grandfather on my paternal grandmother's side, was born in Alabama on 19 Dec 1835, parents unknown (please help if you recognize). He married Coredelia Clementine Clines in Lamar County. He enlisted in the 26th (O'Neal's) Alabama infantry in 1861 and served with this unit for the duration of the American Civil War. He served with notable distinction and quickly became the ordinance Sgt, eventually moving up to 1st Sgt of Company K. He fought at Chancellorsville in 1863, where he was captured and released-by-trade, only to be captured once again at Gettysville a little over a month later, due to a gunshot would in his upper thigh. He was eventually released around Columbus MS and, after the war, became a farmer in Lamar (then Sanford County) AL. He and Coredelia had two daughters, Cora Lee and Tinie Edaline, in the years following before having my great-grandfather, William Luther, in 1882 in Kennedy, AL. He lived a long and successful life before passing away on 20 Dec 1923 in Millport, Lamar, AL. There are several family stories that have been passed down through the past couple of generations about his exploits during the war that I cannot recall at this time. I have copies of his prisoner-of-war sheets and a stunning photo of him in uniform. The history of the unit that he served with is posted on a website at www.rootsweb.com. If anyone recognizes this name I would love to hear any anecdotes or information you may have about him, especially if you know who his parents were and where they were from. Thanks for allowing me to share this brief glimpse into my family history!
