Tony had a great personality. He loved playing guitar and was the best amateur guitar picker I have ever heard pick a guitar. Chet Atkins style picker. He played a Red Gibbon 335 and sang. He wrote many songs ahis favorite country singer was Merle Haggard. Tony sounded much like Merle. He played in bands across the south and up to Nashville. Country was not the only music he liked to play. He loved rock n roll, from the 50's to the '70's. Tony started playing by ear when was 5 years old. He grew up in Geneva, Alabama with his mother Pat and they lived with close by Pat's brothers. Bill, Jerome and Herman Howell. His father was Bruce Voyles but left when Tony was 2 years old. His uncles were the father figures in his life. That's where he got his interest in playing guitar. He played all the time. He came to Baton Rouge in the early 90's with a band playing a circuit. Met and married his wife Tracy Blocker. He found musicians in the area to form a band with and played music every weekend. He met and played with local big name musicians like Buddy Roy, Dick Freeman and John Fred of John Fred and the Playboys. Tony played and recorded studio with John Fred on his last recording in the 90's.
Tony had heart problems and passed away April 20, 2003.

In 1925, he married Myrtis Knight (born 1912) and they had a son, Robert Earl Voyes (1936-2013) and later separated. On July 22, 1937 he married Alice Litherine Beasley (1916-2002) and they had a daughter named Peggy Ann.
Earl Maurice Voyles passed away in ive Oak, Suwannee, Florida, USA on July 19, 2001.
