Myrna Loy
Myrna Loy was an actress who made a significant impact in Hollywood during the 20th century. Born as Myrna Adele Williams on August 2, 1905 in Radersburg, Montana, she was raised in Helena and nearby Radersburg. Her father, David Franklin Williams, was a rancher and the youngest person ever elected to the Montana State legislature. After her father's death from influenza, the family moved to Los Angeles, where Myrna was educated and caught the acting bug. She started her acting career at the age of 15 by appearing in local stage productions to support her family. One night, she caught the attention of Mrs. Rudolph Valentino, who helped her secure some parts in the motion picture industry. Myrna made her first film appearance in the small role of "What Price Beauty?" (1925) and later appeared in "Pretty Ladies" (1925) alongside Joan Crawford. She was one of the few stars to make a successful transition from silent movies to the sound era, starting out as a Theda Bara-like exotic femme fatale in silent films and later becoming a refined and wholesome character in the sound era. Unable to secure a contract with MGM, she appeared in small roles until she finally landed a contract with Warner Brothers after appearing in "Satan in Sables" (1925). Her contract player debut was in "The Caveman" (1926), where she played a maid, but despite being typecast as a vamp, she continued to take on roles that would showcase her talent. Myrna's big break came when she signed with MGM and received two meaty roles in "The Prizefighter and the Lady" (1933) and as Nora Charles in "The Thin Man" (1934) with William Powell. The Thin Man series was a huge success, and Myrna's witty perception of situations gave her the image of a no-nonsense character. She appeared in five more Thin Man films and was named the "Queen of the Movies" in 1936 in a nationwide poll of movie-goers. Despite her popularity, the roles became fewer and fewer in the 1940s and 1950s. In the 1960s, she appeared in "Midnight Lace" (1960) and "The April Fools" (1969) and later in TV movies in the 1970s. Her last film was "Summer Solstice" (1981), and she passed away on December 14, 1993 in New York City at the age of 88. With a career spanning 129 motion pictures, Myrna Loy will always be remembered as the "Queen of Hollywood" during her heyday.

William Henry Williams
WILLIAM HENRY WILLIAMS BORN: 30 MAY 1848 DIED: 7 JAN 1917 William was born to William Lewis Williams and Priscilla Shellhammer Williams. His father was born in Ohio and his mother in Pennsylvania. His older sister, Sarah Amanda and brother, Lyman Isaiah, also were born in Michigan. When he was 2 yrs old, the family was living at Elkhart, Indiana, where another sister, Elizabeth Emily was born. Then on they went to Iowa, where three more sisters, Mary Calista, Elma Jane and Jennie E. were born. He attended school at Des Moines, Iowa, and then entered the brickmaking and building vocation. He also farmed and owned a coal mine and dealt in real estate. His Father died in 1869 and his Mother died in 1872. He married Belinda Vernon Close, in 1878, the daughter of a prominent brickmaker in Des Moines. Possibly even the bosses daughter...she being 10 years younger than William. In 1879 they lost an infant son. In 1880 they lost a baby girl, Mary. Children born in Des Moines, Iowa: Howard Clinton-1881, Albert Rhesa-1883, Grace May-1886, Henry Lyman-1892 and Agnes Ethel-1897. William was a very intelligent and talented man. He built a large, mansion-like home, three story with full basement. And an additon of homes called the Grace Addition. He played piano and sang, but unfortunately he drank too much and gambled. So much so that he lost the land where the University of Des Moines now stands on a presidential bet. Seems that life with William was getting to be too hard for Belinda. They began selling all their property, and Belinda filed for and was granted divorce. William was suppose to split all his assets with Belinda. And she won custody of the children. But, in 1900, he tried to swindle her out of some money he made from a real estate sale. Belinda found out, sued him and won and put a restraining order on him. That same year, William and the boys, Howard, Albert and Henry were on their way to be part of the Land Run in Oklahoma territory. Whether it was William's idea or not, Belinda and the girls, Grace and Ethel, followed. At first they lived in a dugout, as many did who made the run. But soon, William had built another huge home in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where Belinda opened a boarding house for women. In 1902, a son was born in what was still Oklahoma Territory, as Oklahoma did not become a state until 1907. They named him Bert Okla. William was a restless soul, who did not stay with the family long before leaving again often abandoning the family for long periods of time. As stated, however, he was a very intelligent man. 6 Feb 1906 he patented an invention #811,606, "Combined Lister Plow and Planter" and 13 Nov 1906 he patented another invention #835,997 "Plow". After this time, William started having trouble with his head. It might have been cancer or some other problem. He was living away from the family but wrote them to ask if he could come live with them, in El Reno, Oklahoma. 7 Jan 1917: While Belinda, Grace and her young daughter, Marguriet were out taking a walk, and Agnes Ethel was in the house, writing letters to those who had sent Christmas remembrances, William layed down, placed a pistol at his right temple and ended his life.

Bert Okla Williams
Bert was born in Oklahoma Territory, before Oklahoma was a state. His parents gave him the middle name, Okla. He was their youngest child. After his father died, his mother became very ill and he vowed he would not marry or leave his mother until she passed. One of his brothers was a preacher and Bert began preaching when he was only 14 years old. He later did go to a seminary and made it "official". Bert was an avid gardener and had an uncanny gift with nature and animals of all sorts, both domestic and wild. Within a few days of talking to and feeding them, wild birds would actually land on his shoulders, arms and even his head when they would see him. And different kinds of tree squirrels came and ate out of his hand. As his youngest child, I loved to watch him interact with the myriad of animals we came in contact with. I've had many close contacts with animals in the wild but do not have the complete trust the animals had with him. Bert loved to whistle, so most likely one could find him simply by listening for him. He grew gigantic watermelon and tomatoes that we loved to consume right out in the garden. (We kept a salt shaker in the garden for our frequent feasts). He had a huge interest in poultry, so we had large flocks of chickens and a flock of guinea fowl. He knew the type of trees, birds, ducks, geese and even grass and/or weeds we were looking at. Needless to say, for me, it was never boring being with him. I was always asking questions and he was always patient and willing to stop whatever he was doing to answer. He was a great Dad. He was 50 years old when I was born. Too old? No way...I couldn't have had it better.
Ruby Morris
Ruby Morris was the daughter of Clyde B. Williams, who was born in 1914 and passed away in 1976. On June 3, 1989, at the age of 49, Ruby was tragically murdered by her husband, a successful accountant, at her home in Cave Creek, Maricopa County, Arizona. Ruby and her husband, Gaylynn Earl "Rusty" Morris, had a fateful meeting in a honky-tonk in Memphis, Tennessee in 1959 and got married later that same year. They moved to Arizona where Earl built a successful accounting service company and ultimately settled on a five acre home in Cave Creek. A number of years later, Earl began having an affair with Ruby's sister, Peggy Williams Hinton. The three got into a confrontation and Ruby demanded a divorce and settlement with threat of reporting Earl's illegal accounting practices with his business. Earl shot Ruby at their home and loaded her body into his El Camino where he proceeded to drive to their boat in San Diego. After loading her body into their family boat named 'Hi Lo', he burnt the body and the boat which then sank into the water. It took detectives a few months to piece together the murder (see Clue to missing woman may be on sunken boat, county detective says), and Earl was ultimately charged and convicted of murder during his trial in 1992. After her passing, Ruby left behind her spouse and three children: Randall "Randy" Morris, who was Ruby's son as a result of sexual abuse from her father, and Ruby & Earl's two daughters, Dawna Kay Wells who was an aspiring singer at the time, and Cynthia "Cindy" who worked as a waitress. Ruby's case was featured on Forensic Files. See Forensic Files Now.
Andy Williams
Andy Williams Born December 3, 1927 in Wall Lake, Iowa, USA Died September 25, 2012 in Branson, Missouri, USA (bladder cancer) Birth Name Howard Andrew Williams Nicknames The Emperor of Easy The King of Christmas Height 5' 6½" (1.69 m) Mini Bio (1) The extraordinary, easy-listening crooning talents of Andy Williams were first unveiled when he was 8 years old and inducted into the Williams Brothers Quartet as its youngest member. Born in Wall Lake, Iowa on December 3, 1927, Andy started singing with his three older brothers (Bob Williams, Dick Williams and Don Williams) in his hometown's Presbyterian church choir. The quartet became instant local news and made its professional singing debut when Andy was in the third grade. A bonafide hit, they went on to become a staple on radio in nearby big city Des Moines. From there, the harmonizing siblings found widespread popularity on wartime radio, including Chicago and Cincinnati. Andy graduated from high school in Cincinnati. They eventually caught the attention of crooning king Bing Crosby, who included the boys on his mammoth 1944 hit single "Swinging on a Star". Bing, of course, was keen on the boys' combined talents, having his own singing quartet of sons at home. His career received a major boost when he co-starred with Chico Marx on the short lived television show called The College Bowl (1950 - 1951). On the show he acted, sang, and danced along with others. The show lasted for 26 weeks. After College Bowl was cancelled Andy Williams was offered regular singing duties on Steve Allen's Tonight! (1953) show, which led to Andy's first recording contract with Cadence Records in 1956 and his first album. A "Top 10" hit came with the lovely ballad "Canadian Sunset". This, in turn, was followed by "Butterfly" (#1), "Lonely Street", "I Like Your Kind of Love", "Are You Sincere" and "The Hawaiian Wedding Song", the last tune earning him five Grammy Award nominations. An ingratiating presence on television, he was handed a musical show co-hosting with June Valli and a summer replacement series of his own. In the meantime, he developed into a top nightclub favorite. In 1962, Andy made a lucrative label change to Columbia Records, which produced the "Top 10" pop hit "Can't Get Use to Losing You" and a collaboration with Henry Mancini, which inspired Andy's signature song, "Moon River," the Oscar-winning tune from the popular Audrey Hepburn film Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). Andy had the honor of singing the song during the Oscar ceremony. Other major chartbusters for Andy came with the movie theme songs Days of Wine and Roses (1962), Dear Heart (1964) and Love Story (1970). An attempt to parlay his singing fame into a film career was one of Andy's few missteps in a hugely successful career. He co-starred in the light, screwy Ross Hunter comedy soufflé I'd Rather Be Rich (1964) starring Sandra Dee and enjoyably squared off with fellow singing suitor Robert Goulet. Andy and Robert also sang in the picture (including sharing the title song), which was a tepid remake of It Started with Eve (1941) starring Deanna Durbin. It was an artificial role to be sure and is only significant in that it was Andy's sole legit acting experience on film. What truly put Andy over the top was the phenomenal success of his weekly variety show The Andy Williams Show (1962). Andy was a natural in front of the television camera and his dueting with such singing legends as Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland and Peggy Lee kept audiences enthralled week after week. What goes around comes around for Andy would often invite his brothers to sing with him and also introduced another talented harmonizing boy group--the seven "Osmond Brothers". The series, which concluded in 1971, won three Emmy Awards for "Best Musical/Variety Series". Andy himself picked up a couple of nominations as performer. In 1961, Andy married a stunning, whispery-voiced French chanteuse named Claudine Longet (born in Paris in 1942), who was 15 years younger. The couple had three children. She made a mild hit of the song "Love Is Blue" and enjoyed slight celebrity status. Like the Crosby family, Andy's clan became an integral part of his annual classic Christmas television specials. Despite the fact that the couple separated in 1969, Claudine continued to appear in these specials in the early 1970s.In tandem with his famous television show, Andy opened Caesar's Palace in 1966 and went on to headline there for 20 years. Following the demise of his television success, Andy continued to tour both here and abroad. He laid low for a time to protect his children through a tragic crisis when his ex-wife Claudine (since 1975) became enmeshed in a tabloid-styled shooting in March of 1976. The 1970s also deemed the cardigan-wearing Andy as too square and clean-cut to prod younger audiences. Nevertheless, he hosted the Grammy Awards a few times and returned to a syndicated series format in 1976, which was short-lived. Andy remarried happily in 1991 to non-professional Debbie Haas. Inspired by singer/friend Ray Stevens, Andy had built a $12 million state-of-the-art theater, which opened in 1992 and was christened the Andy Williams Moon River Theater. Andy became the first non-country star to perform there and other theme shows have since been inspired to populate the small town--now considered the live music capital of the world. At age 70+, he continued to perform in Branson, Missouri, where he and his wife reside, and in Europe. Andy Williams died at age 84 of bladder cancer in Branson, Missouri on September 25, 2012. - IMDb Mini Biography By: Gary Brumburgh / [contact link] Spouse (2) Deborah Marie Haas (3 May 1991 - 25 September 2012) ( his death) Claudine Longet (15 December 1961 - 7 February 1975) ( divorced) ( 3 children) Daughter Noelle Williams, sons Christian Williams and Bobby Williams. His high baritone voice was used, along with his brothers, whenever Kay Thompson would do vocal arrangements at MGM. He can easily be heard in numbers featured in Good News (1947) (most notably in the "Ladies Man" number alongside Mel Tormé), The Harvey Girls (1946), and Till the Clouds Roll By (1946). Strongly supported ex-wife Claudine Longet during her trial for the shooting death of her lover, skier Spider Sabich, in 1976 in Aspen, Colorado. She claimed it was accidental and received 30 days in jail. Andy went to Aspen to be by her side after the shooting, but she ran away with her married defense attorney to Mexico. For many years was the owner and featured performer at the Andy Williams Moon River Theater in Branson, Missouri. The audiences, which were often sold-out, were always appreciative. Sang "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" at friend Robert F. Kennedy's funeral Received 18 gold and three platinum-certified albums. Has recorded eight Christmas albums over the years. His favorite songs were "Take A Bow" by Madonna, "Fool On The Hill" by The Beatles, "How Deep Is Your Love" by The Bee Gees, "Georgia On My Mind" by Ray Charles, "Southern Nights" by Glen Campbell, "She's The One" by Robbie Williams, "Desperado" by The Eagles, "You've Got A Friend" by James Taylor, "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life" by Stevie Wonder and "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel. (Source: BBC Radio 2 "Tracks of My Years"). He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 6667 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California. Tested for a part in State Fair (1962) which eventually went to Bobby Darin. Barbara Eden appeared with Williams in the test. Quit smoking in 1963. Friend of Robert F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. On Nov. 5, 2011, he announced that he has cancer of the bladder. Was cremated and his remains scattered in the water outside his Moon River Theatre in Branson, Missouri. In April 2013 Christie's auction house was set to sell is major collection of art, including paintings by Jean Michel Basquiat, Kenneth Noland and Edward Ruscha. Was a staunch conservative Republican. In 1963 he bought the failing record label Cadence Records. In 1970 he changed the name of the label to Barnaby Records, and released not only his own records but that of many of Cadence Records' artists. Had a rough start in Branson, MO, when he first opened the Moon River Theatre. He made comments about the local people that were taken as insults. He was forced to make public apologies for his comments before he could continue his shows there. Recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor by the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation in 1986. His first time as an actor/singer/dancer was on The College Bowl (1950). He was one of the regular characters on the show who used his own name. Chico Marx was the star of this series,ll which only lasted for 26 episodes, all filmed live. Only the last episode still exists on kinescope. This episode can be seen on the Marx Brothers TV Collection DVD set (2015). [on his support of ex-wife Claudine Longet after she shot to death her lover, skier Spider Sabich, in 1976] I had to be there for her. She is the mother of my children. And we never stopped being friends. I still accept her story that the shooting was accidental.

She had one sister, Carol Ann Williams, and a half-brother Jimmie Leroy Gaines, Jr. (1930 - 2009). When Cindy began her acting career, she moved back to Los Angeles from Dallas, Texas and her initial efforts were in television commercials for companies such as Foster Grant sunglasses and TWA airlines. Those led to appearances on popular tv shows like Happy Days, which then led to her own television show, "La Verne & Shirley" (1976 - 1982). Cindy Williams married William Louis Hudson Jr., born 1949, on May 1, 1982, in Los Angeles, and they had two children, Emily and Zachary Hudson. Cindy and "Bill" divorced in 2000. He had previously been married to Goldie Hawn, with whom he had children Oliver and Kate Hudson. Kate is currently an actress and businesswoman. Cindy was active in films from 1970 - 2020 and in television from 1969 - 2016. She died in Los Angeles, California at the age of 75 after a brief illness. Her most popular show, "La Verne &Shirley" was a 1970s hit but she kept acting and working up until the end of her life, even publishing a book. For more complete details and quotes from Cindy, herself, see Cindy Williams, Star of ‘Laverne & Shirley,’ Dies at 75.
Esther Jane Williams
Esther Jane Williams (August 8, 1921 – June 6, 2013) was an American competitive swimmer and actress. Williams set multiple national and regional swimming records in her late teens as part of the Los Angeles Athletic Club swim team. Unable to compete in the 1940 Summer Olympics because of the outbreak of World War II, she joined Billy Rose's Aquacade, where she took on the role vacated by Eleanor Holm after the show's move from New York City to San Francisco. While in the city, she spent five months swimming alongside Olympic gold medal winner and Tarzan star Johnny Weissmuller.[1] Williams caught the attention of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer scouts at the Aquacade. After appearing in several small roles, alongside Mickey Rooney in an Andy Hardy film, and future five-time co-star Van Johnson in A Guy Named Joe, Williams made a series of films in the 1940s and early 1950s known as "aquamusicals," which featured elaborate performances with synchronised swimming and diving. From 1945 to 1949, Williams had at least one film listed among the 20 highest-grossing films of the year. In 1952, Williams appeared in her only biographical role, as Australian swimming star Annette Kellerman in Million Dollar Mermaid, which went on to become her nickname while at MGM. Williams left MGM in 1956 and appeared in a handful of unsuccessful feature films, followed by several extremely popular water-themed network television specials, including one from Cypress Gardens, Florida.

Seeking parents and siblings of Mary Elizabeth Williams born 1811 in Ohio, married Henry Tawney 4 Aug 1831 in Tuscarawas, Ohio. Died 1865 in Adel, Iowa. Margaret Williams born 1817 in Ohio, married Lewis Hayden in 1836 at Tuscarawas, Ohio. William Lewis Williams (my Great Grandfather) born 1818 in Ohio, married Priscilla Shellhammer, died 1869 in Des Moines, Iowa and Hugh Benjamin Williams born 1827 in Ohio, married Isabella or Isabelle Diddy. After Isabella died he remarried to Mary Lucy Stacy. He died 1889 in Colorado. They all briefly lived in Elkhart County, Indiana.

I am the last of my line as a great grandchild, stemming from William Lewis Williams. My father emphatically and often told me these sibling's father came from Wales and I am pretty sure that their mother was born in Pennsylvania. I believe also that there are a lot more siblings. I have hit a solid brick wall that I have sought to break through, for many years now and am hoping someone out there has one of their siblings that we could reconnect with and get this family back together again. Hoping of course to discover their parent's names and whatever info I can get. Thanks to anyone who may respond.
This Williams line. Is this Lyman Williams connected to Thompsons? From Michigan.

The Williams family was joined to the Threlkelds when Elizabeth Threlkeld, daughter of Rev. Joseph Threlkeld, married Samuel Williams in Montgomery Co, MD. The couple moved to Chariton Co. MO. They had 5 children, John Peter, Henry T.,Thomas B., Eliza, and Harriet.
Samuel married Elizabeth in MD then traveled to MO where he purchased land, and returned to bring his family west. A pioneer settler of the county among the Indians and wolves. He died in 1821. Elizabeth died in 1835.

Henry T. was a leader in one of the earliest Indian Wars commanding a regiment of militia. He was a leading lawyer in his state. Eventually moving to New Orleans where he became surveyor-general of Louisiana. He died in 1859.

Thomas B. was prominently connected to the government Indian Service. and died of a cold while escorting Indians to Iowa.

Eliza was married 3 times, first to Dr.John Holman, next to Nathaniel Patton who published the first newspaper west of St Louis the 'Missouri Intelligencer'. He died in St Charles in 1837. Finally she married Major Wilson Overall. She died in 1878.

Harriet married Rev. R N Kelly, a leading Methodist minister and a pioneer editor in Liberty, MO. He died in 1840. Harriet then married John Boyd of Montgomery Co. She died in 1877.

John Peter became a leading planter in Chariton Co. He owned 3300 acres of land and raised annually from 30,000 to 50,000 pounds of tobacco and hemp. He also owned 25 Negroes. He also ran a large saw mill and grist mill on the Chariton River. He married twice, first to Miss Amanda Williams and had 8 children. Then to Polly Watts and had 4 more children
Of John's children by his 1st marriage was John Peter Jr. who would father one William E Williams, who would then sire 9 children Boyd Williams. and Virgil H Williams my grandfather.

Being a Williams researcher myself, I get lots of queries from people searching for their Williams ancestors. This one touched my heart.

Sarg contacted me searching for information on his father, Leroy Williams, probably born about 1917-20. His picture, too large to submit, was taken on an Army base near ElPaso, TX during WW11 in training and the only thing Sarg has to go on. He was standing next to a jeep. Leroy was about 5'10" or 11, fair complexion with blondish/brown hair between the age of 20 - 30 and probably had blue eyes. In the picture the insignia on his uniform appears to be just a large black symbol of some kind that I have been unable to identify. The story goes that Leroy met a girlfriend and she became pregnant. The two planned to marry but Leroy was shipped overseas and killed in action somewhere. Sarg's pregnant mother was contacted by Leroy's mother notifying her of his death. Where the mother lived is unknown; I suspect Leroy would have been from one of the southern states but this is pure speculation. At any rate, Sarg was born to his unwed mother and has been searching to find his father's Williams Family for some years with no success.

If you recognize any part of this story please contact me at [contact link]

Notes for JOHN M. WILLIAMS:
The following info is from Carol Jean Tanner, a gg-granddaughter of John Williams:

This is the story my grandfather told me that his grandfather (John Williams) told him. Neither set of their parents approved of their marriage because she was Eastern Cherokee Indian and he was white. They were married in the middle of the road in front of her parents house in NC and left to go to Arkansas to settle. Neither would speak of their families in NC and neither would give any family info prior to their marriage. John Willliams was a Union Army Soldier and also a veternarian.

Info I have collected over the years.
