This photo is of a young H. Austin Clark of Owego, NY, taken in Elmira by Tomlinson.  He was born to Judge Charles and Evelyn Hodge Clark in 1855.  He married Harriett Hunt Sackett and was a lawyer and Tioga County Judge.  He passed away in 1914.

My Great-Grandfather and family moved to Ratcliff, Houston County,Texas around 1890, from Philadelphia,Neshoba Co.,Mississippi.William L.,was the son of Darling Barber Yates & Mary Emily (Oliver) Yates.William and Edna"Sis"had a family of ten children,six daughters & four sons.William John,the oldest son and daughters,Emily F.& Udora are not in the photo.

He married Mary Louisa OVERSTREET 12 Nov 1862 in Houston County, Texas, daughter of Washington Madison OVERSTREET and Caroline Frances Permiela JOHNSTON. She was born 25 Oct 1847 in Kemper County, Mississippi, and died 25 Oct 1925 in Livelyville, Houston County, Texas.

Linnie A.Yates was born in Grapeland,Houston Couny,Texas.1887-1975,Both are buried in Refuge Cemetery-Grapeland,Houston County, Texas
They raised eleven children,seven sons and four daughters.

George Washington Yates later on became a doctor. He was the son of Darling Barber Yates and Mary Emily Oliver Yates.

Civil War Plaque placed at the gravesite of William Lafayette Yates (1840 - 1923) by his grandson, Dow Yates. Also a photo of his great-grandson, Royce Olan Yates,(1945-2006) at the gravesite. Royce Olan Yates passed away December 24,2006.

Loring Clark is the Great-Grandfather of Ora D (Clark)Yates.Born in the state of New York about 1820. Came to Sabine, Louisiana about 1840,Married a Tibitha Bevins of Louisiana. They married 29 Dec 1842 in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana.They had three children born in Louisiana, they moved to East Texas around 1850.They had four children born in Texas.Their home was in Grapeland, Houston County, Texas.

Eli Townsend Steadman entered military service (Civil War) on June 9, 1861. Company G, Texas Regiment, Hood Brigade in Lee's Army. Assigned to the infantry, Regular army. Listed as six feet three inches tall, fair complexion, grey eyes, twenty years old. He was a gunsmith when inlisted. He was wounded on the last day of the "7 Day Battle" just below Richmond, Virginia. He was discharged September 29, 1862. Information from confederate certificate #626, survey 1.

Eli parents were George Pemberton Steadman and Martha Steadman, who were farmers.

Francis Haywood Parker was born March 04,1837 in Rowan County, North Carolina,near Lumberton.
The son of Ralph Regan Parker and Sarah C. Hodge Parker.
Francis Parker came to Houston County, Texas in the late 1850's and encouraged his father and large family to follow him.The Parker family and others in the community built a Methodist church know as "Woodland Hall". Rev. Parker was called an "Exorter" in the church and he is recorded as a lay preacher present at the first Quarterly Conference at the Elkhart Church, Anderson County, Texas. He married Zilpha Ann Overstreet May 25 1866 in Houston County, Texas. Rev. Francis Parker died Jan 09 1913 in Houston County, Texas and is buried in Parker Cemetery, Grapeland, Houston County, Texas
