About me:
I am researching Tasker, Jones, Bowen, Rees of Wales; Kroetch, Chartrand of Canada; and Boggs, Ferguson, Smith, of West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. Also Steeples of Kansas. And on my mother's New England roots - well, too numerous to name since she descends from Mayflower passengers as well as Dutch East India captains who arrived with their families before the Mayflower landed further north than was planned. :)
About my family:
I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Director). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come.
I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in Campbell (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our current Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director

My mom's side of the family is Swedish (and still lives in Sweden) and she instilled in me lots of Swedish heritage and traditions which has made me who I am today. My dad's side of the family is German and Irish and the most likely the side of the family I get all my freckles from. Family is so important, and welcome everyone to discover more about them, their history, and share about their loved ones who make up the history of who we are!

The Clinton Evening News. Iowa. 4th October 1887.
- FOUND DEAD.
THE SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED
DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN.
Mr. William Benning Dies Suddenly
Alone in the Hay Loft of His Barn.
- Funeral Yesterday Afternoon.
A sudden and unexpected death occurred on
Sunday morning, the circumstanding which
are sad in the extreme. Mr. William Benning,
one of the old and well known citizens of
Clinton county, residing on his farm one and
a half miles north-west of Camanche, came
to Clinton on Saturday afternoon to do some
trading. Before leaving for home he indulged
somewhat in liquor, but not to excess.
Reaching his home shortly after dark Mr. Benning
went to his barn to sleep, preferring the hay loft
to the house. His son went to the barn at about
eleven o'clock and insisted upon his father coming
to the house. The old gentleman refused to do so,
saying he was comfortable and would remain in the
barn. At about twelve o'clock the son again went to
the barn and made an unsuccessful effort to induce
his father to come to the house. At 4 o'clock the son
made another visit to the hay loft and was horrified
his father cold in death. The young man hastened to
the house and notified the family.
The nearest neighbors, some half-mile distant, were
summoned and the body was removed to the house.
Considerable difficulty was experienced in getting
the body down from the loft as the deceased was a
very large man, weighing some 240 pounds.
With the use of ropes and the assistance of several men
this was finally accomplished. Mr. Benning was about
seventy years of age, and had resided in the county for
many years. He leaves a wife and several children, all
grown, to mourn his death. The funeral occurred from
his residence at two o'clock yesterday afternoon and
was quite largely attended.
William Joseph Benning was born to William F. Benning (1826 - 1887) and Wilhelmena Fredericka "Ann" Louisa Beck (1832 - 1907). His father was born IN Marburg, Germany and his mother was born in Erfurt, Germany. He had ten siblings: Louisa, Carl, Marie, Henry, Charles, Frederich, John, Emma, Francis "Frank" and Lillian.
William married Immogene Nelson Millard (1850 - 1916) on December 24, 1873 and they had thirteen children: Nelson, Henry, Lois, Cora, Walter, Isaac, Grace, Inas, Arthur, Mabel, Lloyd, George (my grandfather) and Winnifred.

George Herbert Walker Bush was the 41st President of the United States. From his humble beginnings in New England to the highest office in the land, Bush's journey is a fascinating one.
George H. W. Bush was born on June 12, 1924, in Milton, Massachusetts, into a family of esteemed lineage and business acumen. The seeds of leadership were sown early in his life, with a father who served as a United States Senator and an influential presence in the world of finance. Raised with strong values of integrity, compassion, and duty, young George developed a sense of responsibility that would shape his path for years to come.
Enlisting in the Navy during World War II, he displayed courage and valor as a naval aviator, surviving harrowing combat missions and earning prestigious honors for his bravery. His experiences in the war ignited a sense of camaraderie with his fellow servicemen and fostered a lifelong respect for those who serve their country.
After the war he attended Yale University. Graduating Phi Beta Kappa in just two and a half years, he embarked on a successful career in the oil industry, and his path eventually led to serve the nation he loved.
Entering the realm of public service, he served as a member of the House of Representatives and as a United States Ambassador to the United Nations. His diplomatic finesse and dedication garnered respect from both sides of the aisle.
But it was his term as Vice President under Ronald Reagan that solidified Bush's place in history. His steadfast loyalty and measured leadership during a transformative era in American politics showcased the qualities that would later earn him the highest office in the land.
As the 41st President of the United States, George H. W. Bush faced challenges on the domestic and international stage. From navigating complex foreign policy issues, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War, to addressing pressing domestic concerns, his presidency was defined by a sense of duty, pragmatism, and a commitment to unity.
Beyond the realm of politics, George H. W. Bush's legacy is etched in his compassion and dedication to philanthropy. His post-presidency years were marked by a profound desire to make a difference in the lives of others, from humanitarian efforts to disaster relief initiatives, exemplifying the belief that service is a lifelong calling.
