It passed the conservative Republican Congress in March of 1948. After World War I, the economic devastation of Germany caused by burdensome reparations payments led to the rise of Hitler. The states quickly ratified the Amendment and it was signed into law on July 1st by President Richard Nixon.

1992 - By the time he was 78 years old, in April, Bosnia-Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia.
