Douglass, and George Albert Douglass. He married Mabel E. Bragg, and had a child Evelyn Mabel Douglass. Alberto Douglass died at age 67 years old on September 27, 1940 in Pittsfield, and was buried at Pittsfield Village Cemetery in Pittsfield.

In 1872, in the year that Alberto Benson Douglass was born, on May 22nd, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Amnesty Act of 1872. The Act restored full civil rights to secessionists, including about 150,000 former slaves who had fought in the Confederate Army. About 500 former Confederate sympathizers were not allowed their full civil rights.

In 1885, when he was just 13 years old, on June 17th, the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York Harbor. Two hundred thousand people and hundreds of boats greeted the statue. It had to be assembled but that had to wait until the pedestal was completed the following April.
