    The following obituary appeared in the newspaper: JAJE ALPHONSE J. (AL) of Lupton, formerly of Almont, age 66, died December 31, 1998. Beloved husband of Alice Jaje of Lupton. Dear father of James (Vickie) Jaje of Lapeer, Jeffrey (Vel) Jaje of Warren and Vickie (Steven) Zaroukian of Macomb. Dear grandfather of Lauren, Bryan, Kaylin, Justin and Katherine. Dear brother of Cecelia (Stan) Piestrak of Dearborn, Stella Rusis of Harrisville and Jennie (Homer) Nastali of Detroit. Many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a sister Helen Knochel. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

On December 8th, the U.S. declared war on Japan and on December 11th, Germany and Italy (allies of Japan) declared war on the United States. World War II was in full swing.
