In 1800, Anders was 64 years old when Alessandro Volta presented his findings about the first electrical battery, proving that electricity could be generated chemically and debunking the widely held theory that electricity was generated solely by living beings.
In 1801, Anders was 65 years old when on March 4th, Thomas Jefferson was inaugurated as the third President in Washington, D.C. He was the first President to be inaugurated in Washington D.C. and the 2nd to live in the White House.
In 1802, in the year of Anders Larsen Larsen Meland's passing, on March 16, Congress established the United States Military Academy at West Point - the oldest of the five service academies in the United States and one of the oldest service academies in the world.
In 1806, he was 70 years old when Noah Webster published his first dictionary, A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language. It was the first truly American dictionary, incorporating the idioms and language of the day. Thus began his effort to standardize the American language, which was regionally different. It took him 26 years to complete the entire project.
