A photo of Andrew Tocher. Andrew Tocher escorted British children to Australia in 1940 and came to NZ on trip back to England. Left on passenger vessel Rangitane which was sunk by German raiders of the East Cape on 27/11/1940 a day or two after this photo was taken. Andrew was killed when raider fired on the wireless room and he died in the lifeboat on transfer to the raider. Survivors were off-loaded Emirau Island and we did not know of his death until they were rescued.

Andrew visited with the Idoine family in Auckland New Zealand where this photo was taken shortly before his death - Back: Olive, Mavis, Eva, & Edwin Idoine, Dolly & Stanley Baxter (friends), Andrew Tocher, Leon Idoine. Front: Olive & Gordon Baxter.

He may be a relative by marriage of the Idoine's as Eva Idoine (nee Carse) had a cousin Agnes Philp (nee Tocher). Does anyone know?
