Annie May Johnson of Melbourne Australia was born in 1888 to Henry William John Raymer and Mary Jane (Wilkins) Raymer. She had siblings Henry Raymer, Walter Raymer, Harry Raymer, Norman John Raymer, Ethel Louise Pleass, and Sydney Albert Raymer. Annie Johnson died at age 74 years old in 1962 in Melbourne.

In 1888, in the year that Annie May Johnson was born, on July 25th, a court stenographer from Salt Lake City - Frank Edward McGurrin - decisively beat the competition in a typing contest in Ohio. He was supposedly the only person who used touch typing and is believed to have invented the method. Touch typing is ubiquitous now - but Frank's win is what convinced everyone that the method was good!

In 1928, at the age of 40 years old, Annie was alive when Mickie Mouse was born! He first appeared in Disney's Steamboat Willie, along with Minnie. Although they were in two previous shorts, this was the first to be distributed. Steamboat Willie took advantage of the new technology and was a "talkie" - music was coordinated with the animation. It became the most popular cartoon of its day.
